Fastest Route Northern CA Coast Back Down To Soutern CA
Looking for advise traveling from Eureka, CA back down to the the Inland Empire are (Corona,CA area the quickest fastest, Less headache route will be returning from a trip in October and trying to get things planned.
Is it best to avoid the San Francisco area ? I Was thinking about taking the 101 to the 20 and cut across to the 5 ?
Any input would be appreciated.

Yep, 101 to 20 to I5 is good.
Then take 210 east just as you're entering the LA area. That will skirt most of the LA madness.
Then take the 57 south to the 71.
The 71 will dump you off on the 91. Corona will be a couple of miles east.
And YES, avoid going through SF, go around it.
It's bad enough in a car, let alone in a MH or towing a trailer.

Just posted my experience coming up 101
Just home to Vancouver Wa after bad experience coming over 58 from I 5 to 101 and going north thru N. Calif and Oregon... After SF..going North to redwoods..couple hundred miles on 11 no place safe to pull off for gas, food, info with a trailer or fifth wheel... See my comments. Also roads bad this time of year..saw few RVs in Calif, very windy, windy roads with lot of work being done.Fastest way is down I 5...In Summer also traveled and is very slow with many RVs....

Can you tell more about your bad experience coming over 58? That's usually a good, easy pass. Sometimes there's a little wind in the Mojave area.

58 was no problem as long as your familiar with towing thru a lot of traffic. 20 dollar fee on toll bridge going west just prior to entering 101. ...We had no problem there with all traffic moving right along...Did not see any other RVs on 58...possibly from storm warnings on coast routes...

Noted bikendan suggestion about 210...we came from Az on 10 and took the 210 cut off going north west.. to 5....Again lot of traffic but no problems and saved a lot of time. Should be the same going east on 210 Used our Garman GPS through that area...as signs can be confusing.

Alternate 99 instead of 5.

An alternate to the 5 is to pick up the 99 at Sacramento, then rejoin the 5 south of Bakersfield. I just traveled the 5 from Bakersfield to Sac, and it is in terrible shape. Lots of chuckholes, and all two lane.
The 99, in comparison, is mostly three lanes, and much of it is new, where the 5 has not had any serious repairs since no one knows. The distance is about the same, fuel prices much cheaper. And the scenery is better, IMO.

Fastest Route Northern CA Coast Back Down To Soutern CA
If you want fast, you need to get back to IS5 as quick as possible. So the 36 or the 20 would be the quickest unless you go a little farther north from Eureka and hit up the 299. IS5 is made for trucks. Sure the roads are a bit rough at times but there is very little stopping and easy in and out truck stops. Like others said, the 210/57/71/91 is best unless you're in the Eastvale area of Corona and then take the 71/60/15 route. I also live in Corona. Off the 91 and McKinley.

Check for freeway closure for the 15. I don't remember the date range but they will be closing it at night for a while in the Corona area.

I think that ends April 4th but they will ever be done with that interchange. Lots of litigation about it.
