Finding a Cool Mountain Getaway Summer 2020

This will be a lot of fun thread!

OK my DW and I are planning getting out of the Hot Arizona summer in 2020.

We are looking for a GREAT Full hookup RV Park (No National Parks) in the cooler areas of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and even western Kansas.
Cost is not an issue.

Some things we really have to have:
1. Good reliable Wifi for email and bills.
2. Cable TV would be nice but I can take my portable SAT Dish.
3. In the trees
4. Would be great to have a town or city with food, gas, restaurants.

We are looking for your ideas and suggestions to get out of the Arizona Summer months.

So lets start with what state do you like the most for camping.

Then we can fine tune to a specific campground or area.

Thanks never been up in that area of SD.
Been up to Sturgis then turned back south.
Have added it to my list but still looking for one north of West Yellowstone and even close to the Canadian Border.

Sturgis is probably just 20 or so mile East of Spearfish. The Big horn mountain area is beautiful and cooler than the surrounding areas.

No, I'm in Conway. Home of University of Central Arkansas. And Toad Suck Daze. But I live closer to Pickles Gap, really. Me and Scotty Pippen went to school there. So two famous names.

Try Mono Vista RV Park in Lee Vining, CA. Our favorite getaway from AZ is Port Townsend, WA followed by Newport, OR.

You should get many, many recommendations. Question, are you looking for a summer get-away, or just a few weeks.? I live in AZ in winter and the mountains of Idaho in the summer. The central Idaho mountain private campgrounds are full of Snowbirds. McCall, Cascade, Donnelly, New Meadows just to name a few towns. All have at least one grocery store, drug store, and fire department. I found an RV park where you own your own lot. There are 12 lakeside state parks within 25 miles of here for up to 14 day stays. And it rarely gets above 90-degrees.

Maybe it's too close but we found Coronado Trails in Alpine, AZ for the summers. It's about 30 minutes out of Springerville. Adult park and all the pines you can use.

Hummm. That sounds interesting and never though about that area.
Coronado seem to be the best one of the 3 there.
I see it in the trees at a nice altitude.
Have you gone there?
Sat seems to be a must for TV as I think they didn't mention anything about OTA TV stations..

Have you stayed there for a week or more or just over night?

We are hanging out in Heber-Overgaard Arizona for three months this summer. It's been nice up here and the rains in the afternoon make for nice sleeping at night.

There are a lot of RV Parks on the Mogollon Rim in the Show Low area, all in the pines, at least one on a lake. Don't have to go far to cool off and relax!

We go to Eagle Nest New Mexico in the Moreno Valley. There are several nice parks in the area and lots of places to visit (Taos, Santa Fe, etc.).

Leadville Colorado several campgrounds in the area and you can't get any higher or cooler

Last summer my wife and another couple embarked on a nearly 3-month tour of the West, concentrating on National Parks. We started in Big Bear Lake, CA, then Joshua Tree NP where the campgrounds have full hookups. Next stop was Grand Canyon Railway RV in Williams, AZ. Easy access to Grand Canyon NP. Next was Holbrook, AZ, at Petrified Forest KOA. then Alpen Rose RV just outside Durango, CO. Then on to Alamosa KOA nearest Great Sand Dunes. Then north to Spruce Lake RV in Estes Park, CO. West to Grand Junction, CO at Junction West RV. Then north to Shady Acres RV, Green River, UT (Arches and Canyonlands). Then Fossil Valley RV in Vernal, UT. Then Colter Bay RV right in Grand Teton NP. Then Casper, WY at River's Edge RV. Billings Montana KOA was next - the very first KOA in the country. Great Falls, MT took us to Dick's RV park. The Missouri river was at near flood height!! Then on to Glacier NP at West Glacier KOA. North Spokane RV Park was our next stop. Then on to Yakima, WA, Suntides RV. Near Seattle, WA, we backed our rig into my nephew's driveway with partial hookups. Portland, OR was next at Portland Fairview RV east of town. Next stop was south on I-5 to Seven Feathers RV Park and Casino, one of the best RV parks we have ever seen. Then to Red Bluff, CA, at Durango RV Park, right alongside the Sacramento River. Then on to Petaluma, CA at the KOA there. Heading home we stopped at Buelton, CA Flying Flags RV park, a regular stop for us. Finally home to Long Beach, CA.

We planned this particular itinerary because it gave us easy access to numerous National Parks here in the West, but if NP's are not your top priority, all of the parks we stayed in are completely acceptable, and many are exceptional. Many of them are rated 10/10/10 in the Good Sam Club Directory.

If you want to stay close to the Western Coast , let me know and I can provide some recommendations to stay col in the summer fog!!

But I don't think there are many trees in W Kansas. If there are, please let me know.

When DW and I were first married, I had a job in LA. Dothan was pretty humid too. Moved there from Rhode Island. Neither car had AC. That changed quickly.

Remember the only cool spots are in the mountains in Arizona and New Mexico. You come down to Phoenix , Tucson, Albuquerque NM and you will FRY! 100 plus degrees but low humidity LOL

We've been seasonal for the past few years. A hot day is 80 and the nights come in around 60. Bring your portable dish antenna. Excellent Verizon, you can see the tower on the mountain top.

If you really want north and west go to Washington state, try Fidalgo Bay RV Resort in Anacortes Wa. We spent a week there in September 2016 after having spent the summer in Alaska.
Anacortes has all of the things you mentioned, small town charm, the RV resort is on the shores of Fidalgo Bay, and there is a lot to do and explore in the area. The ferry to San Juan Island is a fun day trip. Sedro-Woolley is a short ride east and a charming small town. Bellingham is 45 minutes north, Vancouver BC is less than 100 miles away. We ran out of time before running out of places to visit.
