From Alabama to Colorado and back again
So we are in the middle of finalizing the planning one of the longest trips we have ever taken with the TT. We will be going from Alabama to Lake George, Co. to the Grand Canyon and back again via US40 (old route66) for a while.
We are planning on going through St Louis and picking up US 70 and heading West. Who out there has traveled on 70 towards Colorado?
How hosed up is the interstate?
Anything we need to be made aware of?
Thanks in advance

I don't know why you would go thru St. Louis to Colorado, we just got to Colorado Springs Sunday, left little rock went thru Tulsa ,Wichita ,Salina,Ks then over to Limon Co. Then down to Col springs. Expect strong wind on I-70 from Salina to Colorado, not always but not uncommon. Have a safe trip

Why Lake George? There are nicer places in CO to drive thru or visit.

Stay off I-40 from Memphis to Little Rock it's smoother driving in the median.

Amen.
I-70 from STL to Denver is a BORING ride..........but straight and not nearly as many big trucks as I-40. I just drove it 2 weeks ago. Windy! Nothing to stop the wind between you and the Rocky Mountains except a barbed wire fence! Road is a decent interstate.
STL to CO Springs is more than I can drive in a day though, and danged sure more than I'd drive in a camper. I did not look for campsites along the way, I admit, but I don't remember any........surely there are some.

We are driving out to Denver from Atlanta this Friday. Headed to Red Rocks for a Steely Dan/ Steve Winwood concert 5/13.
Excited needless to say!
We are going west via I-70. Pulling a 21' DS, microlite with a 2011 Toyota forerunner. First long trip!
I've driven this route a few time(no TT), Kansas is not very exciting, but the destination is the goal.
Safe travels!!

Indeed! Although Florrisant is nice, there are better campgrounds near by.
For Example: a few miles more is Mount Princeton. Nice campground, Hot Springs, good hiking, fishing. Up the road from there is an AUTHENTIC ghost town! St. Elmo.

I have traversed cross-country on I-70 at least 18 times. Mostly in my 1967 Corvette, but lately towing a travel trailer. Good road, not as heavily traqvelled as some of the other Interstates, but can be windy in the flatlands west of Missouri. In the St. Louis area we recommend Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles. One of the nicest we've encountered. Great restaurants in the old town section. Between St. Louis and Denver, we've stayed at Triple J RV Park just off I-70 in Russell. Nice park and really convenient to the Interstate. Stayed there in July 2012 when a thunderstorm descended on us with such fury my wife thought the wind would rip the trailer right off the ground. I told her not to worry--we were still hooked up to our truck!! Then she peered out the window at the height of the storm, and swears she saw the Wicked Witch of the West fly by on her broomstick!!
