Inside the park, my wife and I are not "people" person type, but we both really enjoyed it, didn't have any problems being crowded at all.

When we were there this past August there were cars driving to the lookout points along with the shuttle busses.

Just as there was four years ago this month when I took this shot of my truck along the rim:

Seems like a lot closer than Trailer Village. Any thoughts on this? And how much time is really needed to do the Skywalk justice? Seems like a pretty quick experience? Or is there more to it?
Here is an article that has pros and cons of Grand Canyon West. It is not part of the national park. And the ticket package, like everything else, is not cheap for what you get. https://grandcanyon.com/planning/wes...-west-skywalk/

It is about 5 hours (250 miles I believe) from the South Rim. Not nearly as much to do there as the South Rim.

If you do go, take the old 66 highway route to Kingman. Very nice drive (much better than I40), and you can stop at Grand Canyon Caverns if you have time. It's a quaint, quirky place with an interesting cave tour and a good 50s diner. Bare bones RV park, but very usable. They have a Good Sam Rally there occasionally.

If it was me, I would spend more time at the South Rim.

We like the Grand Canyon Railroad park in Williams, it’s neat and clean and paved.

We stayed in the GC RV park last July with our 34' trailer and found the whole experience wonderful. The south rim was a 15 minute stroll away. The park is crowded in July but is extremely well run. However, we needed to make our reservation six months ahead of time.

Thanks... after the various advice, I'll think we'll skip the side trip to the skywalk and go straight to the Village for our GC visit.

GRAND CANYON - Good CG near by?

Well Trailer Village in the park is best option in my opinion. Not unlikely they might have an opening if you show up without reservations. But no matter where you’d stay while in the park try and walk down the Bright Angel trail at least a 1/2 mile. That will give you a better concept of how really huge that canyon is.

If you are able to get tickets and walk to the bottom. All the better. I walked to the bottom in 2014–stay the night at Phantom ranch and back out the next day. Ive traveled all 50 states and it’s as pretty at the bottom along The Colorado River as anywhere in the USA in my opinion.

People turn tickets back in all the time so they are available at Bright Angel Lodge.

Russell.

Camper Village

We had a site in GCNP. No hookups as the trailer village was totally booked. Turned out to be 97 degrees and bright sun. Impossible without AC. Luckily we called Camper Village right outside the park entrance and they had a site with water and electric. Saved our stay. Nice store and restaurants and grocery within walking distance. If you can’t get full hookups in the park this is a good alternative.
