What kind of safety issues are you looking at?
US 2 is mostly 2 lane across Michigan with a lot of passing lanes. A few hills but mostly flat land with Lake Michigan shorelines on the east end. Speed is mostly 55mph (60-65) and moves right along.

When we went through last fall, there was a bypass around Williston. Quite a few trucks but nice scenery. They were building new roads to handle the extra traffic. We didn't feel like there was any danger.

BTW, we planned our stops so we did not need to spend the night there.
