I-10 Bridge Outage Near Blythe CA

Has anyone traveled the section of I-10 where the bridge washed out in July? We were thinking of staying on I-10 til east of L.A. then catch I-5 north.

However, now we're thinking about taking I-8 out of Tucson til around El Centro, then go north towards Indio, which is where we were planning on staying the night and then on towards L.A.

Go to AZ511.gov. For some reason this address won't let me put the www at the beginning of the web address. They have information there that will help. They also have a phone number there.

I believe the have moved traffic to the side that did not wash out and reduced both directions to one lane. That what the folks on the local news said.

The I-10 Work reported above is about 20 miles east of Tucson. Road is down to one lane until December.

Blythe is west of Phoenix. Nowhere near Tucson

Your plan for I-8 to El Centro isn't a bad idea. Just the traffic and the mess of getting through Phoenix is worth it. After Casa Grande I-8 is uncrowded, picks up a little bit between Yuma and El Centro.

10 is open....down to one lane.....I was thru there 3 weeks ago...area is palm desert.

There is a pilot station just before the California border. South side of the freeway.

Last time I was in Arizona (June) there was only a 3 cent difference in gas price from California.

Okay, that sounds wrong in so many ways. If you're going north from Los Angeles I guess we need to know where in order to give you advice but going south to highway 8 from the 10 sounds like a waste of a hundred miles. I haven't heard what they did with that road repair but that they had one lane open at least and no matter how badly it slows down its got to be better than heading to the to the 8th and coming back up to Blythe California. From Blythe you still have to take the 10. If you're going points north from Los Angeles, I would think twice about going into town and then taking the 5 north especially with an RV since there are sections of that road that must be among the worst in California. If you're going north of Bakersfield and have towing capacity for a moderate grade. You can swing north to the 40, Barstow then 58 west through the Tehachapi Pass and hit the 5 that way. All depends on how much you want to avoid the 10 and how eager you are to go into Los Angeles

If you take I-8 from Eloy over to the El Centro area and take CA-86 up to Indio you won't add that much mileage to your trip. It gives you a little different view of things as well.
The bridge that is out is just east of Desert Center. Yes it's open to one lane each direction now but I don't have any idea what the backup might be.
I just came out to Cali from Arizona but I went via Las Vegas. WAY out of the way but a much funner trip.

I paid $2.25 this morning. Don't know about California, I stay out of there. Gas is too expensive.

best last chance to fill up in az is the Texaco on 10 about 5 miles east of Ehrenburg... especially diesel....stay away from pilot and flying j ... not a good deal anymore since FJ bought pilot.

If you want to miss the Phoenix traffic you can take exit 199 (approx 55 - 60 mi from tuscon) to I-8 towards San Diego for 65 mi to 85 north. This brings you back to I-10 at Buckeye. I don't beleive it's any faster but it avoids Phoenix and the traffic frustration.

Well I paid $3.059 yesterday and that was the cheapest brand name gas around here.

As Blackrock stated this morning and according to a news report this morning, bridge will be open by the end of September.

Well we took the I 8 route and wish we hadnt. Traffic I on I 8 was good but the roads were bad. Got worse after El Centro. Plus our genie gave us trouble. We'll try 10 on our return trip. Thanks all for the advice and support.

the single lane around the construction might slow you down 5 mins ....was in heavy traffic when I passed by and we boogied thru with no impatience [for an impatient man]

I took the I-10 to california from Arizona a couple weeks ago, the traffic slowed to one lane and went 45 over the bridge, it was no big deal. Maybe I was lucky but i went both ways in a couple days and no issues. I found it goes pretty good and I would not be concerned if i was going again.
