Looking for a nice RV Park North Denver

I’m looking for a nice RV Park in North Denver ( Brighton, Thornton ) area.

I have searched all the standard RV Park apps but can not find anything nice.

Anyone know of one?

Thanks.

I did a 'google' search for 'camping near Brighton, CO and a couple came up along with ratings. Not sure what area you need, but Barr State Park is in that area.

Thanks. There is no camping at Barr State Park.

There is a Barr Lake RV but most of the reviews I read are negative.

Don't know how close you need to be - but check out St Vrain State Park or Cherry Creek State Park. Probably not ideal locations, but they both offer full hookups and aren't too far...

There is a really nice park in Golden just off I70 west of Denver. Dakota Ridge RV Resort It is more north than Cherry Creek and much quieter. Really nothing north until you get yo Loveland.

Just sold my house in Thornton (120th & Colorado Blvd area) back in February and close on a new place today in Yuma, AZ!

Anyway, there really is nothing right around Thornton...

Dakota Ridge is pretty nice, but be prepared to refi the house to stay there...

Now, there is an awesome KOA up in Central City!

Was just there last year over the July 4th. weekend!

And if you go north up to Loveland or Ft. Collins, there are several good places.

And Poudre Canyon was my favorite place to go...but you have to go up in the middle of the week to secure a good campground as now 'everybody' has discovered this little gem of a secret.

Oh...stay away from the Wellington KOA...

It is a very nice RV park, but right across the street is a huge cattle ranch, so the air fragrance is not very nice, plus there are loads of birds there to feast on all of the flies!

Spent July 4th, 2015 weekend there...will never go back!

Someone mentioned Barr Lake...

I've never stayed at Barr Lake, but I know a lot of people who have and they said it's OK, but definately not a destination campground.

Most of them are either fishing or bird watching at Barr Lake State Park.

Cherry Creek...very awesome, but you have to book in there in January to get in...

I've been to St. Vrain many times (Longmont exit at Highway 119 - and it's right next to I-25 to the west)...this place is awesome, but the sites with good shade only have water and electric and the full hookup sites are all out in the sun!

But St. Vrain is probably going to be your best, closest bet!

Now, if you are willing to go south to Colorado Springs there is a hidden gem of an RV park about 20 miles west of Cheyenne Mountain State Park (also a very nice place, but tough to get in) on HWY 115 going toward Canon City called Mountaindale RV Park that is probably the nicest place to park an RV in the state of Colorado!

I've been there four times (was there last October) and it is AWESOME!

Cherry Creek State Park is a terrific campground. It may be to fat for your purposes in Aurora, but its worth checking out. Cherry Creek State Park - Aurora, CO - RV Park Reviews

I just booked a weekend in mid-August with several sites to choose from, shockingly. I about fell off my chair! :-)

Congrats on your new place!

Yikes. Scratch that - they've since booked up for that weekend - dry sites only left.

Will do. But doesn’t look like anything nice around Thornton so may just stay in a hotel.

Colorado is weird. Most of the state parks have no hookups. Vault toilets are the norm and they charge same as most state parks here in Texas with full hookups. I get the whole nature thing but, people age and age brings the want for easier things and comfort. Tenting at 25 was fun, but now at 50, fun is a/c, king bed and cable.

Hmmm...I haven't found that to be true (not that I disagree on the "weird" part, lol). Most of the state parks we've stayed at here in Colorado offer full hookups. You had me curious - so looking at the state park directory - of the 35 state parks that offer camping, 75% of them have either electric and/or full hookups. That's pretty good - considering the issues w/elevation & remoteness of some of them.

Now, the national forest campgrounds and wildlife areas tend to be almost all dry sites...

:-)

Yeah, there are 41 state parks.

According to the Facilities and recreation brochure.

10 parks Full hookups. Sewer/water/Elec
24 Electric
30 basic

Yes, the National parks are pee and poop at will, drink water from the creek and stink like a Frenchman.

There are some National Park campgrounds that have electric only sites.

My favorite one is up Poudre Canyon called Jack's Gulch...

It is up Pingree Park Road (dirt road with a lot of chatter bumps) about eight miles and has three camping loops, but only one of them has electric.

First come first serve sites...no online reservations!

Here are some shots from like 15 years or so ago up there...

I didn't count any of the day use ones. :-)

JohnD10 - cool pics - will have to add that one to the list. We haven't spent much time up in that area but it's on our list of places to explore. But TELL me that last picture is not a road I'd have to pull a trailer through to get there. ;-)

No...not a road you have to pull a trailer up, but it is on the map and on some of those roads there have plotted sites with trailers on them, although I'm guessing they'll never come down!

Used to go to Jack's Gulch all the time with the old Coachman, and only once went up there with my previous Trail Runner TT and have never been up there with my 5'ver.

Just bought a place here in Yuma, AZ (sign on the dotted line today) so may not get a chance to go up there with the 5'ver!
