Mesa/Apache Junction (Arizona) KOA

We stayed at the Mesa/Apache Junction (Arizona) KOA this weekend when we went up to Phoenix for the Highland Games. The KOA is about 45 minutes from Steele Indian School Park in sort of central Phoenix, where the Games were held. (There might have been shorter routes; we chose Not Getting Lost over Shorter/Quicker Possibilities.)

The campground was clean and the staff were friendly. (I lucked out and found some holiday presents in the office/gift shop/store!) The water went out once, and the electricity went out once, both for very short periods of time.

For us, the only drawbacks were that a) we never found the dog area that was on the map, and b) it's so close to Highway 60 that it was quite noisy. Neither of these things was a huge problem for us, as we were gone every day to the Games, and so tired when we got back that we could've slept through pretty much anything. But c), there was a lot of oleander, which is very poisonous, and something else I had to keep my dog away from. (There are cactus, too, but one expects that in Arizona!)

It's a bigger park than the only other one we've stayed in (Estes Park, CO), and nicely arranged. There's a little picnic table at each site, and the sites are good-sized. There's a pool, and a rec room with a pool table and banquet tables. There is, however, no cable in that area, so if you want to watch TV, you need an antenna and you'll only get a few stations.

It was pretty easy to find, and there weren't any too-tight corners. At $38/night, for full hook-up, we were satisfied.
