One of our favorite places. There and San Simeon to the north of Morro Bay.

Funny, we were just checking out Morro Bay for a trip soon but found that all of the campsites with full hookups were booked. Looks like a really nice place!

We just booked for November. We like to go when it's colder and less crowded.

ETA: they are not full hookups, water and power only. We've seen some travelers get upset when they realize there is no sewer. We tend to use the campground restrooms, they are clean, and nice. Works for us.

Have you ever tried to get into the sites at Avila?

Hard to get into but very nice!

Morro Bay SP, need to book weeks in advance, pretty much with any campground along the California coast, they fill up fast during peak vacation days. With kids returning to school, it might have more sites available. This campground is clean, quiet and the hosts are nice too, one of them drives around selling firewood and kindling, saves a trip of lugging them back to your campsite

Our next trip will be in Pismo Beach hopefully before the end of the year

Carpenteria books two or three months in advance, so I would presume others are similar.

Yes, San Simeon SP. No hookups but nice clean bathrooms.
