Just traveled from Denver to Mt Rushmore last month. 25 is freeway, the rest is 2 lane and are good roads. I would suggest to fuel up in Cheyenne because it's pretty slim for fuel after that.

I've done the trip to the Black hills from the Denver area several times I tend to take Hwy 85 out of Cheyenne all the way up to the the black hills. Roads are mostly 2 lane but plenty of small farm towns along the way with places to gas up and get a bite to eat. Not much traffic all the way so for me it makes for a less hectic journey. Being not heavily populated the gas stops are often roomy enough for the rig but not fancy. Always helpful and friendly people in the small farm towns.

Well, we leave tomorrow morning and I want to get from Ogden,Ut. to Cheyenne Wy, which will leave 4h 30m to Spearfish,SD for the next day.....

I notice concern about gas stops along the way, I have a 32 gal tank, and intend to fill it every time we see a gas station.....

Spearfish is about one hr. to Mt. Rushmore and we got reservations till July 5th, looks nice and at $33 a night looks like a deal. AAA and Good Sam give it their "blessing" and a 9.5 on bathrooms also has WiFi......which was out of order on the AFB here.

From there it's 17hrs back to Cabot,Ar., but, we will be taking out time. May stop in Omaha for a few days, spent 4 yrs there at Offutt, AFB (69 - 73)

Thanks,
Jim

There is a really nice museum in Spearfish, the High Plains Heritage Center Museum I think. We really enjoyed it if you like western type museums.

could be Windy

made the trip in August a couple of years back. The ride over open highway through WY was steady full wind all the way there and back. Hang on to your hat.

While in Spearfish, head for the town of Lead, some museums and the hike to Boot Hill are pretty good. Also, if they are running the Passion Play or any other production at the outdoor ampi-theater, that would be a memorable event.
