We were recently in St. Vrain State Park. Inexpensive. Lovely sunsets. There's a new state park above Colorado Springs. Very pretty if you can get into it. Whittington is superlative!! They have two rv areas. The one with 50amp sites has more trees. Absolutely gorgeous!! Lots of wildlife. Super staff.

Well, that only makes it easier!! You can have all of those things ... it's called the spare bedroom in their house!

Colorado Springs: Mueller State Park. Similar to Golden Gate Canyon, only offers more privacy due to the layout. One of my all time favorites.
Agree with these suggestions. In part, your choices depend on what part of the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs you want to be in.

I you want to be within 10 miles of I-25, but NEAR the mountains, I would suggest Chatfield SP and Cheyenne Mountain SP, both with FHU sites. We have also stayed at Lathrop State Park just west of Walsenburg and at Trinidad Lake SP. Both have very nice electric sites. All of the State parks have resevations available on-line on Reserve America HERE.

You might also try Bear Creek Lake campground, a City of Lakewood park at US 285 and C-470, that has electric, but not FHU, sites. The lake has fishing and non-power boating, but Soda Lakes, within the park, has a swim beach and a separate power boat/water ski lake.

South of Pueblo, one of our favorite campgrounds with electric sites within ~10 miles of I-25 is the USFS La Vista campground on Lake Isabel. It is located on CO 165 at the Rye-Colorado City exit (I-25 Exit 74). You can read more about it on my "US 160" post on my blog HERE.

Last month we stayed at Mountaindale RV park 20 minutes south of Colorado Springs on the 115. Park is 2-miles in from the 115 and considered remote. Staff and facilities are great. You will have a guide take you to the site and also helps backing in (if needed), they do have pull-thrus as well. Leaving you will take the 115 south toward Hwy 50, then east to Pueblo, then back on the I25.

Whittington Center is nice. Stayed there on the way up. The 2-mile drive from the entrance to the CG is rough road.

Safe and happy travels.

Colorado CG

Cherry Creek SP in the southern Denver metro area meets most of the listed criteria. Close to the interstate, full hookups, 45 miles north of Colorado Springs. This is a great campground with paved full hook up sites that are not on top of each other.

La Vista is one of the few USFS CGs with power. I really liked it down there and want to go back. You can see my photos of site 11 posted on the recreation.gove site. It's pretty far from I25, though -- I think it's about 20 miles off of I25.

There have been a lot of great recommendations in the Colorado Springs/Denver area. Further north, if you would like to stay near Fort Collins/Longmont then you could also look at Boyd Lake SP. If you are traveling in September you will have a harder time finding weekend sites without a reservation, but if your trip is in October most go first-come and some winterize as the evenings get cold.

Come and enjoy your stay in Colorado!

State Parks in Co that may be worth a look

St. Vrain State Park near Longmont has some full hookup sites, and also electrical , water fill up on site and dump station. Boyd Lake State Park, near Loveland, has electricity, water fill up on site and a dump station;. Mueller State Park near Colorado Springs also has full hookup sites. Reservations can be made on line by searching Colorado State Parks.

Spruce Lake RV Park in Estes Park sounds like just what you need. It is right at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, and is our go to RV park whenever in the area.

X2 - great campground close to Denver, and an easy drive down 83 to Co Springs. :-)

Boyd Lake State Park outside of Loveland no highway noise great facility.

Cherry Creek State park right in Denver/Aurora, great location, lots of walking trails and nice beach, may be to cold for the beach at your travel time.

A little gem of a campground right outside of Woodland park CO is called South Meadows.

Thank's in advance.
Stayed four days here, MountainDale Campground. full hook ups. 20 minutes Southwest from Colorado Springs. The time that we were there, 4 bears and dozens of deer in the campground and only feet away from people. Very good place 'back in the woods' to use as a 'base' for exploring Colorado Springs. Great people run the place. click on

Midweek, sites are available, but weekends will prove to be difficult to impossible at State and Federal facilities.
Here's the CO State Parks site...pick your campground and look for openings.
