Recommended Campgrounds near Yellowstone - June 2019

Trying to find recommendations for a campground just outside the park that has electric (for CPAP) for a 30’ TT (ours) and a popup (kids & grandkids). Not interested in lots of frills but a pool would be nice for grandkids. Something not “too” costly (Hopefully). We’re coming from Minnesota. We would drive into the park each day. (I know, long lines etc, but we can’t stay off grid.)Thanks for any help!

several in west yellowstone, MT. we like Grizzly RV park but it is not inexpensive. there are probably some on the east side (WY) or north side (MT). having to book two sites will raise the costs.

Thanks for the input. We’re fine paying for two campsites.

A few years ago we stayed at the West Yellowstone KOA. Fairly close to the west entrance of the park and it worked well for us. I thought it had a pool but a quick check on their website and I don’t see it mentioned.

I was going to recommend you try to book into Fishing Bridge RV park in the heart of Yellowstone which has full hookups, but they are going to be closed for the 2019 season.

That's going to make full hookup sites outside the park in high demand.

Yellowstone Valley Inn RV park located just outside the East entrance maybe 25 mile east of park. Has pool, bar, restaurant, laundry. We have stayed there several times. Probably about 1/2 way between Cody & the Park. If there in the summer take in the nightly rodeo in Cody. Well worth the admission cost.

We've stayed at Colter Bay campground a couple of times and it's nice.

I will have a report available on the Rex Hale FS campground over on the east side coming up out of Cody, Wy. in a couple of weeks. They have several w/p sites for handicap access folks. Other than that bare bones middle of nowhere which I like.

We frequently travel with a friend who uses a CPAP and plug it in to a 40W AC converter attached directly to my battery. The battery needs an hour on the generator the next day.

Stayed at the Grizzly KOA sues out of West Yellowstone last year. $85 a night for a piece of gravel and a picnic table! Not impressed, so if planning on staying out of the park, take lots of money with you. I would think that the addition of a converter to your TT would solve a lot of problems, give you more flexibility, and save you a ton of money on CG fees and you would be able to stay in the park(s).

Flagg Ranch

We've stayed at the Flagg Ranch campground which is located in the national forest between the southern end of Yellowstone and the north end of Grand Tetons NP, so its easy to drive into either. It used to have full hookups, but only with 20amp service. I understand that's been upgraded. Park is rustic and wooded with the occasional grizzly coming by looking for a snack. Another issue is the lack of nearby grocery shopping, but the stores in both parks can provide essentials

On a first come first serve basis, bakers hole is a really nice campground. They have some electric sites. I would highly suggest it.

You mean INverter, not converter. All RVs come with a converter but not necessarily an INverter.

We liked grizzly in West Yellowstone. Stayed at Colter bay campground when we went on to Grand Teton after Yellowstone.

I am not certain about Fishing Bridge, but some of the CGs in Yellowstone used to only allow only hard-sided campers. If your popup has soft sides you'll be restricted inside the park.

Be sure and check that the campground will allow pop-up trailers. Some will not due to the bears.

Agree. Grizzly RV Park is the best campground in
The Yellowstone area. It is expensive but is also
Convenient to everything.
(It is actually not that much more than Fishing Bridge)

We stayed here in 2017 and really enjoyed the stay. It was interesting to also visit Cody - went to a rodeo and the Buffalo Bill museum is a must see.

We stayed at Henry's Lake Sate Park (ID). They have only eight spots w/septic otherwise you'll need a towable/hauler for your black and gray water. No pool but a lake - cold. Just 20 miles from West Yellowstone as well and under $30 per night. Great wash rooms, showers, etc.

We've stayed here a few times and like it: https://grizzlyrv.com/
Also, in Gardiner, MT just outside the north entrance is this park: https://www.rockymountainrvpark.com/

We've stayed at both parks a few times. I don't recall if either has a pool, however.
