Redwoods RV Site

We are looking for suggestions as to where to stay on our vacation this year in the Redwood area of Northern California. Heading out around the end of August beginning of September. We will be needing hook-ups and pet friendly sites. Wife is leaning towards a park called Mad River Rapids RV Park. I'm not sure Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Curt

You have a large 5th wheel and will therefore have many problems staying in the Redwoods. Campgrounds in the area were built for 20-25 foot size. Especially state park campgrounds. We have stayed at a fairly new campground just built for the larger rigs. It is located in the Redwoods(only one allowed) and designed for Motorhomes and 32+ trailers. It is called Ancient Redwoods RV Park, and is located on the Avenue-of-the-Giants. GPS: 40.41706, -123.96254. Telephone 707-722-4396. They offer full hookups and 50 amps. No pool or club house or other amenities. They do have restrooms and shower facilities. Office is a curio shop. Address is 28101 Ave of the giants, Redcrest, Exit 667 off Hwy 101. Owners are super friendly and I found it to be safe.

We are staying 4 nights at the Cresent City KOA, then 4 nights at the Elk Country RV Resort (labor day weekend) and then 3 nights at Ancient Redwoods. You are looking at Labor day weekend so get booked soon. Have never been in this area before so can't comment on any of these campgrounds.

lbrjet Thanks for the info and, the end of August is the time frame we are looking at as well. We will be headed back labor day though. Guess we had better pull the trigger on this quick.

You might also look at the Benbow KOA just south of Garberville. Easy access from Hwy 101. Nice golf course. Walking distance to The Benbow inn, Good food. Short drive to avenue of the giants. It's been over a year since we stayed there, but we keep talking about going back.

If you're further north, up toward the Jedediah Smith Redwoods, we can recommend the Hiouchi RV Park off of Highway 193. Nice open meadow-like park. Plenty of room.
