RMNP Camper lengths

Looking at heading to the Rockies in the Summer and looked at the NPS website. Sites are listed by trailer or RV size. Probably the stupidest question I could ask, but do i base it on length of TV and TT or just the TT? if so, will there be anywhere for me to park my truck with a site for 21-25 feet?

You base your length on just your TT.

The KOA in Estes Park, CO, is a nice place. It's smallish - it's the first one they ever built - so size could be an issue, but it's literally just a couple of miles from the entrance to RMNP. The hosts are friendly, and the facilities are clean. (We have camped there twice and will be going up again in September, for the Highland Games.)

Thanks, we made reservations in the park at Moraine. Now we just need to find a place to shower once or twice and we should be fine

Spent five days at Moraine CG last year. Very nice location with running water plus dish washing sinks at the bathrooms. Staying in the park is the way to go as the views can't be beat.

To clean up we went into Estes Park to a place called Dad's Maytag Laundry & Shower. Don't recall how much they charged but it was reasonable and after a few days of hiking well worth the cost.

LOL, I agree, showers are not something that you worry about the cost of. I remember buying tokens for showers in Glacier and thinking it was one of the best deals in the park. So worth it

Stayed in moraine 2 summers ago. One of the most beautiful parks. Horseback riding was fun. Very strict about their food storage rules. I am a total rule follower but my stuff was taken by the Rangers when I was on a day trip (small barbecue) and I was cited. Oops. I've never put my bbq away before, but here you have to.

I agree with others that the stated site lengths are based on the length of the TT only. I like to get the longest site I can in campgrounds I've not been to before...and then we walk the CG & make note of the ones we like the best for any future visits we might make.

As far as room for your truck, I would say it depends on the length of your TT, the size of your TV & the actual layout of the site...but in general most sites that will accommodate your TT should have room to park your TV as I don't remember there being any overflow parking...but I do recall seeing a lot of TVs parked across the front of the site between the road & the camper.

Be sure to look into potential ongoing road construction along your route as some of the roads are still be repaired due to the floods. They are generally open...but sometimes are closed down to one way traffic & you may have a wait.

We did have the experience once of watching the Rangers chase a 2 year old bear cub right through the campground past our site and down to the river. It's a beautiful place...enjoy your visit!

Last summer I planned to pull our 32' 5th wheel across Trail Ridge Rd. in RMNP. We hadn't been there for about 30 years and I'd forgotten what the road was like. Would have been a frightening mistake; narrow road, no guard rails, quite a bit of traffic during the summer. Fortunately, the visitor's center in Estes Park allowed us to drop the trailer there for the afternoon.
