Route 12, Lewiston to Missoula
I am wondering if I can tow my 33' fifth wheel on this route. I can RV Park at one end or the other, but it would be more convent to drive the route one way only.
It looks to be a very pretty drive and I want to do it.
What do you think?
Thanks for your replies.

I would have no qualms about driving it with my setup.
A quick street view on G-maps showed a couple of rental RV's running it in MT.
I would guess during the week there are log trucks that run the road so unless this is an issue then go for it.

A beautiful road, and an iconic must-do for any motorcycle enthusiast. I've only ever ridden it, but I recall seeing rv's on the road. Enjoy the scenery.
From our honeymoon, 8 years ago. (I believe the sign now says "99 miles")

No problem Sir.
Just a little curvy.....
The road basically follows the river.
You will love it if you drive it like the signs say.
Stay at Wilderness Gateway along the route if you can.
When are you coming through?

We plan to do this in July next year. I do not know how I missed this great road during all my motorcycling years. We did Bear Tooth Pass a few times and could have easily ridden over to this ride. Oh well.
Thanks for all your replies.

Did it on a Goldwing in 2007. Beautiful, historic road.

By all means do it ! from east to west your running along the Lochsa river..steelhead, salmon, cutthroats rainbows n bull trout...sometimes steep route to three rivers campround at Lowell where the Lochsa meets the Selway and forms the Clearwater river. This road has been improved every year (Wife n I from Minnesota been fishin this tretch 25 years.) Three Rivers camp has Rv parking tentin cabins a store and a saloon. Across the road isa gas station with diesel, a café (with VERY good food and a very clean 6 unit motel....we'll be on this stretch with our new 29RR Grey wolf fly fishing in a couple weeks...then north west o fish the Skeena system in BC ! This is a major truck route...you will not regret the trip... Deer Elk Grizzly Moose, wolves, wolverine, otters...youll see everything in beauty n harmony there !..... juice

Just an FYI.
Three Rivers will rent you a cabin (they have 10 or 12).
Everything else is closed.
Across the river cafe and motel are open,
just not Three Rivers.
Family squabble, I hear.

Lewiston to Missoula
The route is good, and is a very pretty, but somewhat curvy drive. Log trucks and semi's use this road year long, so that and the curves are about the only things to watch out for. Keep an eye out for deer, elk, and moose, especially around sure down.

This is one beautiful drive. I live right off the Montana side of Lolo Pass (Hwy 12) and see large motor homes and some trucks navigate it all the time. If you drive in the evening you may encounter a moose! On the Idaho side at the top of the pass is Lochsa Lodge, good restaurant, forest service campground within walking distance...... river right there too! The road gets less curvy in Montana as you descend towards Lolo but no less scenic. You said you wanted to only drive it once, but you may an insane urge to go rent a sports car or motorcycle and go back over again!
