Santa Fe National Forest Closed

FYI... for those thinking of making a trip to the Santa Fe National Forest. Heard on the news yesterday that the forest is closed to the public due to extreme fire danger.

Have a reservation to Clear Creek CG at end of the month. Checked Recreation.gov and there is a disclaimer that park will be closed until July 8th, and anyone with a reservation will be contacted for a refund.

many, if not most, of the national forests in northern arizona are also closed! even at those that are still open ban open fires and charcoal grills. propane is allowed. local stores are being discouraged from selling firewood or charcoal. the forest service is taking this seriously. do not get caught trying to break these restrictions. tickets and even arrests are in your future if you do.

I was talking to a Navajo County worker yesterday and he said that the moisture content before the Rodeo Chedeski fire a couple of years ago was 8%. Today it is at 2%. All of the Apache reservation is closed to the public.
