SE Colorado last week

Good camping at John Martin Reservoir. Excellent hookups and facilities. This site is about 30 miles east of Bent's Fort which is a National Park. If you have an interest in the Santa Fe trail this is an extraordinary step back into life as it was in the 1830's - 1850's. Park personnel are in period costume and run the fort as it was run back then.

Go to know. We are heading to John Martin on May 8th for the first time. I hope they have enough water for kayaking. We'll give the Fort a go too!

Interested in SE/Central CO camping in June, wife looking at a "resort" type place, I think it is called Happy Valley? We have never stayed in a resort type park, only State and COE CG's.
Would be interested in other options in area without the sardine feel that pics of the place give me.
Looked at CO state parks web site and not much in Southern CO, not really wanting to venture too far north, not wanting to have to hit too many passes, traveling up from DFW area.
Thanks for the ideas, I will look at John Martin Reservoir.

Visited Bents Fort just before seeing the movie Centennial. They didn't change a thing for the movie.
