Question Trip to America in July?

Hello all,
We are planning to come to the states in July and bring our friends with us.
We will be renting an RV. There will be eight of us-four adults and four children.

We don't know yet where we'll land, nor do we know where we are going to go.
We most likely will land at LAX (Los Angeles), but landing in Arizona could be an option. I suspect that RV rentals would be cheaper there!
I would love to hear from you all about places you like to camp at, and RV rental places.

I'm concerned that it'll be next to impossible to get reservations at most places, so boondocking is no problem.
(Your idea of boondocking would probably be a resort for us!)

The possible destinations are the usual (because of our Korean friends);
  • Grand Canyon
  • Vegas
  • San Francisco
  • Ave. of the Giants (redwoods)
  • Disneyland
  • Sea World
  • and others...
Plus these because of family
  • Santa Barbara, California
  • Peoria/Glendale, Arizona area
We hope to get about two weeks of time there, so all advice and recommendations are welcome! Especially phone numbers of campgrounds. It's really cheap for me to call the states, so calling campgrounds is no problem.

I also would like to know what the best options are for cell phones. I haven't been to the states for a decade, so I have no clue as to what is available now. I have a Galaxy SII and a Galaxy Note II that can both roam internationally, but I want something that I can make local calls with.

I sincerely hope we can at least meet one family from FR Forums during this time. I'm open to arranging a little group camping with any and all! That would be soooo fantastic.

Everyone please pray for us and keep your fingers crossed! The last time we tried to do this (2008) everything went to hell in a handbasket here...

Baron, Julie, Barry, and Faith. (Fang will stay in Korea. Stupid dog.....)

unfortunately, if you haven't made campground reservations by now, you probably will have a very tough time finding anything.
in the popular areas in the summer, most California public campground campsites are gone by the previous February.

so, you'll probably have to do private campgrounds for anything in California.
all of California's state campgrounds are on Reserve America but i will bet you won't find anything in July, for the places you've mentioned.

possibly might find something in the Redwoods but not likely.
even Grand Canyon's campgrounds will be gone by now.

i hate to say this, but you'll probably find it easier to rent a van and stay in motels/hotels.

I know. It's a last minute idea, but I think it's not gonna fly...

You can find campgrounds in Colorado but they will be without hookups but that is where we go mostly.

Campland on the Bay in San Diego for when you are visiting Sea World. It is awesome.

Yellowstone National Park is a national treasure and so are the Grand Titans. Vegas....well, that's a classic, and San Fran is one of my all time favorite cities....do the Alkatraz tour!
