Ventura, CA to I-5 NOT Hwy 101

Looking at the map and see Hwy 33 goes from just north of Ventura, CA and ends up on a parallel to I-5 northbound. We are in a MBS 24' and curious if anyone has experience with that route. Not many towns on the map between Ventura and I-5. Might be dicey over the mountains....

Has anybody taken this route and have input???

Not a fun drive.
Crazy windy and time consuming.
Once you get past Ojai, the road is a challenge.

Are you wanting to head north on I5?
If so, most people in the area, go up 101 to Paso Robles and cut across to I5.

Lived in Ventura County for 16 years.

If you are planing on heading North on I5.... We were on I5 headed north from Bakersfield to Sacramento a couple of weeks ago, avoid it if you can. The road is full of bad bumps, in fact it looks like the areas they repaired are like speed bumps. Beat the heck out of the truck and trailer... We came back on SR99 and it is 100% better.

Took this road in a 24ft class c back in 1996. The grapevine was snowed in and I was heading southbound to San Diego. Pulled out the map and decided to go for it. Bad idea. Not only was it snowed in, boulders had rolled down the cliff onto the road, which I had to try and dodge. There was no place to turn around and it was a scary adventure at 1 in the morning. Ended up giving a ride to 2 people that got stuck. Told myself if I made it through I would never go back on that road. Made it all the way only to get to a low clearance bridge. Just barely made it under. Haven't been back.

If you haven't gone already, consider taking the 126 from ventura to the 5. It is going to be much easier on you.
