Western US Summer RV trip recommendations please

My wife, dog and I are looking for recommendations for our summer RV trip. We live in the SF Bay Area and want to head north to Oregon and maybe Washington for a couple weeks.

We'd like to stay someplace for at least a week and are attracted to semi-secluded places on water. For instance we stayed at an RV park on the Trinity River last year and loved it. We are not familiar with what Oregon and Washington have to offer but if you can recommend a clean park with hookups at the ocean or a nice lazy river we are all ears!

Well, if you want coastal spots, better start making reservations now, especially for Oregon and Washington state parks.

We love Harris Beach SP in Brookings, Oregon. You can't go wrong with any of Oregon's state park campgrounds.

Washington coast is definitely not as beautiful as Oregon coast. And weather is lousier.

Dosewalips State Park in Brinnon WA is very nice, right on Hood Canal. If you like oysters, and clams you can get a 3 day license and collect your own. I would look to book now spaces fill up fast, week days seem to be more availabe.

X2 on Oregon State Parks.

We especially like Ft Stevens SP at the mouth of the Columbia River. It has history, ocean beaches, fresh water lake for trout fishing, and smack dab between Astoria and Seaside.

Oregon state parks are great. LaPine state park offers 50A full hokup sites at $28 a night. At least last year it was. From there it is a fairly easy drive to Crater Lake, High Desert Museum, Cascade lakes scenic drive, Mt Batchlor, white water rafting, lava flows, to last you at least a week. From there you could head north to the Columbia river follow it into Portland visiting the water falls near the mouth of the gorge. Then to the coast on US30 stopping at Ft Stevens state park to visit the area. Working your way down the coast. BTW LaPine state park is on the Deschutes River which is part of the scenic paddleway. Sites are not directly on the river, but it is a short walk. They also have approx 14 miles of hiking biking trails if you mountain bike.

River Park RV Resort in Grants Pass, OR (Riverpark RV Resort) is right on the Rogue River. We have stayed there for the past 5 summers.

A place I found with our first RV was Bandon State park. Full hook-ups & lots of sites. It is on the north side of the river from town. Fun area & lots to do!

A few hours north of San Fran is Caspar Beach RV, right on the water next door to Mendocino. Lots of surfers and fishermen, but quiet and secluded. Visit the nearby lighthouse.


Farther north, Riverwalk RV Park near Fortuna is excellent. Close to Ferndale, one of the most beautiful little Victorian towns you will ever see. Also recommend Pomo RV park north of Caspar Beach, and Mad River RV just north of Arcadia.


Second the recommendation for Brookings on the Oregon Coast. Alder Acres in Coos Bay is excellent. Lots of good RV parks along the Oregon Coast. Recommend Cape Kiwqnda in Pacific City. One of the best beer Micro-Breweries "Pelican" is there. Get there early before they run out of Prime Rib for dinner!!


Cannot speak to RV parks along Washington Coast, but Fairview RV Park just East of Portland, OR is top-notch.
