Where to stop?

Leaving for Arizona late September, I 90 E to I 15 S, 89 just south of Provo to Flagstaff then on to Yuma. Any suggestions on parks/campgrounds to spend the night. Travel with my 4 legged buddy so prefer pull through, no spotter. 28 ft. 5er.

It is a little over 900 miles from the I-90/I-15 junction to Flagstaff. How many days are you going to take to drive it? I suggest you figure that out first and then use any of the several camping apps that have maps to checkout places to overnight. You can use RV Parks Reviews to help find a suitable campground for your needs.

I've already mapped out my route using Trip Wizard and Good Sam, chosen 5 campgrounds. Thought I might get some insight to someplace different if I asked. Thanks for your response.

There is a main line of the Southern Pacific RR that goes thru Flag.
I like Wapatki NM a few miles north.
It is not 900 miles from Provo to Flag.

What are your stops? Where are you starting from ? Do you have PassPort America? We migrate south from Montana to Arizona and have stayed a lots of different spots. How far do you travel per day?

AudiDudi:

Starting from Spokane, stopping Indian Creek RV (Deer Lodge Mt.) Buffalo Meadows RV (Fort Hall Id.) Lakeside RV (Provo Ut.) J&J RV (Kanab Ut.) Distant Drums (Camp Verde AZ.) Then to my winter home in Wellton. I like to keep my travel time at 4 to 5 hours per leg. I do not have Passport America, do you use it enough to justify the cost. Checked it out and thought there were a lot of restrictions?

No, but the OP said he was going from the junction of I-90 and I-15 which is near Butte, MT. (via Provo) which is 900 miles to Flagstaff.

Where are the 5 stops? That would help in making suggestions.

We enjoyed Wapatki NM. I do not think that it has a campground. Sunset Crater NM and Walnut Canyon NM are also near Flagstaff and worth visiting. The Forest Service Bonito Campground is just outside Sunset Crater, NM.

PPA does have restrictions as to dates available and length of stay. It usually pays for itself in 2-3 nights.

Indian Creek is an OK campground next to I-90 - the traffic noise was not bad. We haven't stayed at the rest of them. We do like Kanab but have only stayed at the RV Corral a couple times. Next time we go that route, we'll stay at the campground by Pipe Springs National Mon. about 20 miles from Kanab. We winter in Casa Grande. Enjoy!!

Not to highjack but interested in camp/RV spots near south east Tucson (Vail). My son and family recently relocated there and want to visit with the RV.

I can highly recommend South Forty RV park on Hwy 89.
South Forty RV Park, Marysvale, Utah, Paiute Trail, RV Parks

Also Circleville RV Park and Kountry Store on Hwy89. They have a real nice Café there.

Thumbs up

Checked out RV Corral on their website, looks nice. Since I haven't made my reservations yet I still have time to switch some stops. Thanks AudiDudi. Always nice to get feedback on the first trip thru an area. Also liked Pipe Spring. Only my second year traveling south for the winter so I need all the help I can get.

There is a real nice county run park just off of I-15 mile 108 exit.

Sorry I missed this post the first time. We have stayed at Lakeside in Provo a couple of times and enjoyed our stays there. We stayed in the Panguitch area years ago. The park we stayed at was not the greatest but convenient to Cedar Breaks NM and Bryce Canyon NP. If I was going to stay in that area again, I would try to get into Kodachrome Basin State Park. In the Kanab area there is Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. There are a lot of campgrounds in the Camp Verde area that are not so close to the interstate as Distant Drums. Zane Grey is along a stream and has some shade. There is also Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood. If you have a chance, the town of Jerome is worth a visit.

You're better off starting your own thread.

Trailer Traveler: I am a she, lost my husband last year and this was an adventure we wanted to take together. Now it's just me and my 4 legged buddy. I don't want any surprises that's why I ask for input from the forum, and I'm glad I did!! Not the first time for rving but new to the 5er. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions, now to do the research on the many places. Keep them coming, many more trips to plan.
