It could be a start of a bridge to allow animals to cross the highway. I have seen several crossings when traveling trough BC. First they build the tunnel over the road then fill between with earth and building an earth ramp on both sides the crossing is then fenced. The also install a fence along the side of the highway. This keeps the wild animals off the road but also allows the animals to migrate from one side to the other.

Sounds reasonable, it threw me because it was in the middle of nowhere and the amount of backfill needed would make it seem unreasonable!

Yep, it's an animal crossing as Caper and Ford Idaho pointed out.

Here is a link from Nevada's DOT explaining them:

I have spent some time driving HWY 93 from ID to AZ but it has been 2-3 years since our last trip south by car.

I know they have made huge changes (bridge over boulder dam)and going from two to four lanes in some sections.
Controlled game crossing are a life saver IMO, OR. and ID. needs to do more.

Here is a person asking why they don't move the deer crossings to a safer location. I'm serious, and so is the caller! LOL

Please move the deer crossing

This is so funny about the lady thinking door know where to cross the roads and asks why they install signs on the road to tell deer its safe to cross. This is a lady with no brain.......

On I-80 in Iowa, west of the Quad Cities, they have an experimental system that appears to consist of a sensor beam between poles about 1/2 mile apart. There seem to be usually 6 or 8 of these, covering 3 or 4 miles in length. If a deer or something runs across the road, it breaks the beam and lights up warning lights on the poles. I've never seen any of the warning lights on, though.

OK, my first instinct was it is a tornado or bomb shelter.
Next, a tunnel project that was completed even if the the surveyor had them two miles short of the mountain.
Finally, really odd modern art.

They have a couple of wilderness overpasses along I-78 in NJ in the Watchung "mountains" just before Newark. It always looks odd to see trees growing on a bridge over a highway but hopefully it keeps the accident rate down.

Maybe it's "Gateway to the Nevada Dessert"
Detroit made this to entertain freeway drivers on the way from the airport to the big game when they hosted the Super Bowl a few years ago. I am so entertained! Aren't you? I got my tax dollars worth of this $14 million dollar thingy!
