Winter Destination
Anyone have any great suggestions to stay for our first winter in Arizona? We will be arriving in the area around December and staying till maybe March. Looking for a place that won’t break the bank and has some activities to do. A woodworking shop would be great. Thanks

places to stay
Don't know about a wood shop but Quartzite comes to mind, prices are from almost free to high dollar. the weather is quite tolerable.

I own a park model in an RV resort in Yuma, AZ.
No wood shop, but two pools and two hot tubs, workout room and all kinds of activities here...love it!
And, RV storage in the back lot is secure and cheap!
Rent is around $350/month plus electric for an RV at this park, and there are lots of other RV parks around these parts!
And, the beach in San Diego is a 2 1/2 hour drive away!

If you like Raw Arizona beauty, give the SE area a shot. Down in Douglas there is a great little place called Twin Buttes RV park that is hard to get into during winter months, but Roger and Bev are fantastic hosts and the place is quiet and clean.
If you don't want that level of remoteness, I am currently staying at a place called CattleRest RV park in Willcox. A very nice, clean place and the camp host, Les, is a very nice host. Clean and small, the park is great. The park is right off of I-10, (far enough away so there is no highway traffic noise)and only a one hour drive from Tucson. Either place will put you within easy drives to some beautiful sight seeing opportunities and monthly rents are under $235/month plus electric.

Guess one question is how much your willing to spend. We stay in Mesa and the park has 4 pools, woodshop, ceramics, stained glass, ceramics, all the sport you can think of plus live music 5 days a week. Skip

Glad you mentioned Quartzite. Have been considering going there in January, leaving home on the 2nd and taking my sweet time getting there.
Will probably seek out a boondocking site. On that note I'm wide open to suggestions as to where the best ones are where a person can relax, do a little hiking, with plenty of room. Where I can run my generator if necessary without disturbing others.
I have the month of January to myself but have to be home in Feb for my Son's wedding. figure I will stay At Quartzite for the max 14 day stay in a "free" site.

Last time I was in Quartzite in January was four years ago...
Both sides of I-10 was like a parking lot of RV's and quad runners everywhere!
I'll be in Quartzite toward the end of January for a camping club meet & greet, although I'm probably just going to make it a day drive and not drag the 5'ver up there.

If you want to spend some time nearer Phoenix, there are a number of boondocking sites just south of I-8, Exit 151, in Sonoran Desert National Monument. The monument is operated by BLM, not the Park Service, so encourages boondocking. You will be about an hour south of the Phoenix metro area and an hour and a half from Tucson, so in the middle of the populated area. But you are still very remote, so be sure to take plenty of water because none is available at the Monument. Cell service may not be great even in close proximity to I-8.
