Yellowstone/Tetons 2013???

We just got home from two weeks in Cimmaron Canyon State Park, New Mexico. Now we are trying to plan a trip for next summer. We have never been to Yellowstone, and now that the kids are bigger we are planning on going there and the Tetons. We live in the DFW area. I know we need to plan on at least 2 days up and 2 days back travel time. We like to stay in state park/national forest campgrounds for the lower cost. We don't mind primitive camping as long as water is close by. Any suggestions on where to stop going up or coming home? Also any suggestions on where to camp once we get to Yellowstone or the Tetons. There will be 3 or 4 RV's in our travel group and we would like to stay close together. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
