I seen a similar set up not long ago in New Orleans. Guy in Canada does conversions on old fleet trucks, to include a smart car bed if you want. This guy had remote winch and all to pull the car up on the back of the Volvo. Pretty neat.

When we met that guy in New Orleans, he was nice enough to let me plunder through his rig from top to bottom. Of course, I go grab the wife and like a saleman, walk her through the thing, trying to convince her, wouldn't this be nice. That said, if we traveled more, instead of full timing and staying put a lot, she'd get one for me. For now, I envy you dblr, and that guy at Walmart.

Glad you posted this John. As soon as I saw that pic my thought was;

Didn't we see this same rig at Poverty Point RV Park on Memorial Day weekend?

Got no idea where that WalMart is, but since someone in Canada fabricates this set-up commercially.....

Fritz *so* wants one of those trucks as a TV for Buffy.

That's nothin' LOL Enjoy!

That's an MDT (Medium Duty Truck). They work very well with the smaller fivers, but when you get the bigger fivers like DBLR and others, you need a class 8 HDT. They are actually less expensive than you'd think!
Very cool, too.
Here's some neat ones from Escapee's forum

Brand-spankin' new Volvo 630 and awesome Excel toyhauler (the smart car loader hasn't been installed yet)

A brand new 45' Continental, and I mean brand new! (sorry for the small pic)

Another excellent Fiver-a Teton stretch

And a typical HDT with Smart on the back.

Henry's little contraption is the coolest thing I've seen to-date.

Push a button and...

RV Haulers is the one I was thinking of, and who did the one I saw. www.rvhaulers.ca

I don't do LONG hauls anymore, but I can recall one of our Indiana runs where I had small pillows wedged here and there by the time we got there. Our truck is great, rides great, BUT.....Air ride seats, on air ride cab, on air ride suspension with air ride fiver hitch. That was my failed sales pitch to my wife. Can't justify the cost right now.

Here are some different ones. DBLR - what's your nickname on escapees? I forgot. You can PM me...

And my favorite, Dirt's rig. Mostly because of the competition ski boat, though... LOL!

I suspect that there's no question that you'd need a CDL to drive one of these??

Seems like some kind of modification (s) to the oil and engine coolant systems on the vehicle tilted up for transport or perhaps draining them before transport is necessary.

nope. usually a non-commercial class A. They are registered as RVs.
