10g Hot Water heater Electric Switch

2008 Georgetown 373ds. First post. Did a search and didn't see this addressed. Has anyone tried or is it possible to move the electric rocker switch on the 10g hot water heater to somewhere inside the coach? Can't figure out why this wasn't done when built/installed? Sure would be easier just to switch on or off inside when needed. Thanks

It is already there. It is in your circuit breaker panel.

I put a illuminated switch on the wall near the breaker panel. Just run a wire from the breaker to the switch and attach the wire, that was on the breaker, (from the heater) to the switch. The switch is literally in series with the breaker and the heater. This gives you indication and you don't have to open the breaker panel.

Duh ... the breaker switch. Why didn't I think of that! Also thanks for the link on the switch ... might go that route ..

Breaker's are not really designed to work as switches, and will eventually quit working, so a switch is a good idea, especially if you are switching on and off often.

May be wrong, but by turning off breaker doesn't it cut power to electronic ign for running on propane also ?

Electronic ignition for propane is 12v.

Are you asking about the switch that switches from gas to elect water heater? I have that there and a sw. in house sw panel that we turn on if both of us take a shower 1 after another makes the heater work hoter.

I do like the idea of the switch inside for the convenience if for example I don't want to completely set up, however are we really talking convenience here or lazy.......I am lazy true enough but only in my mind right now....if your going to use the electric side of your water heater, you have to plug into shower power or run the generator....if your going to plug in what is a couple extra seconds at best to remove that cover and flip the switch...your already outside.....if your going to run the generator the switch makes perfect since but then your burning
gas and it boils down to which is cheaper....propane....ie using the switch already inside or gasoline to include more gen maintenance. Either way, it's good to have options.

1. If you're lucky the heater is not hardwired and is simply plugged in to
   an outlet in the cabinet. In which case just make an extension cord with an in-line switch in the hot wire, and install the switch in the cabinet wall.
   All connections should be a box, i.e. a plastic switch box.
   It it's hardwired you'd need to tap into the hot wire to connect the switch.
   A bit more work, but do-able.
   Leave the outside on/off switch on all the time.
   The propane system is probably separate and can be used at the same
   time when you need a fast recovery.

I added a lighted switch inside my 5ver for the WH. So much easier to just flip the switch after you are hooked up instead of dropping the wh cover. Now I leave that water heater switch on all the time and use the one inside to break the circuit. Was originally thinking using the breaker and thought.......would not rather replace that breaker after constant use.
