2004 GMC 4X4 as toad vehicle

I have a 2004 GMC 4X4 with an auto transmission. It has a neutral lock out for the transmission that makes it ideal for towing. It is just at the weight limit for my MH. It also has electronic brakes that work when the engine is off, so if you lose power to the engine, the brakes will still work.

My question is for you more experienced towers, does that also mean there are preinstalled electronic brakes that will function to stop my pickup when towing? I know there are aftermarket kits that will apply the brakes when towing a vehicle, I just didn't want to duplicate that function if it is already installed.

I know I could call the dealer, but I enjoy your advice and wisdom. Thanks in advance everyone.

When we bought our 2012 I thought/hoped it would have Ford’s built in controller.

Your MH should be pre-wired for a brake controller, plug and play.
Here’s a good thread about installing.

actual towed vehicle brakes

What I was actually looking for was information about whether the GMC had tow brakes already installed. My MH has all the wiring and brake equipment installed, just wondered if my GMC would need any after market equipment to initiate the brakes.
