2009 Georgetown transmission downshift problem/check eng. light

We have been towing our jeep since we purchased our Georgetown 340... No problems until our last trip..Check engine light came on and the tow haul light on the shift lever was flashing while the light on the dash was on... Took it to Ford...Took 3 visits to find out that the downshift linkage in transmission was bad... Took lots of tries to get it fixed. Ford thought it was because we used the tow haul mode too much??? They also thought it was from an eletronic part and wiring harness to the transmission. After all the new parts, it was found to be a part inside the transmission... Seems this is a new problem area nobody has seen before.. Hope it helps someone else. We were beside ourselves with lost time going to get it onlyto find it was not fixed and the problem returned the first mile of using the tow haul. Now, Ford says you can drive all the time in that mode if you want.. So far, no more problems and the transmission is much smoother and way more quiet. I think it must have been bad since we got it.

No problems with ours in two years. We always tow one of our Jeeps (Wrangler or Liberty) or our bass boat so we are in Tow/Haul mode about 95% of the time. I'll keep my fingers crossed but thanks for the information for future reference if we have troubles.
