2016 Ford Chassis horsepower and performance
I just drove a 2016 36' motorhome with the new six speed transmission and 320 HP v-10. I have a 2011 Georgetown 378TS with the five speed and 360 HP v-10. I could tell a significant difference in power, at least a 10MPH slowdown up Cajon Pass on I-15 in Southern California. On the plus side, the engine was turning 4200 RPMS instead of 5000, therefore was much quieter.
I am about to pull the trigger on this new Allegra Open Road 36LA, but my main concern is the difference in power. Instead of 60 over the pass, it struggles at 50, without my tow car behind.
I am seeking opinions from EXPERIENCE if some of you have the 2016 and how you feel about it.
I am not sure it makes a lot of difference, because if you want a new motorhome, that is what you will get.
Thanks for your responses.

We have the 2016 364ts and we love it. Ours has the bigger wheels and drives better than the 2015 Thor we had prior. The six speed trans is wonderful shift points so much nicer.

I traded my '14 Georgetown 328TS for an early '16 Allegro Open Road 36LA that still has the 5 speed tranny. I can't help much with your concerns, but I must say, I truly LOVE the new motorhome!

We also have a new 364 and traded a 2008 Thor.. We have put 5000+ miles on it since November and most of that driving was in Washington, Idaho and Montana..Lots of mountains.. Yes on only the extreme grades do I notice the lack of power.. Other wise with the 6 speed it works a lot less and the noise is way better with the lower RPM's.. It is not a race car so we just take a break going up hills and it is what it is.. I still will take the new over the screaming willy we use to have..

It's the same power. Check the torque curves, HP was measured at different RPMs.
I believe the 2016 even makes more torque, and that's what counts.

Darren, that is the same coach I am looking at. Really like the layout and features. It has everything the Georgetown was missing, plus it is the first coach I have seen that I like the floor plan as well as the 378.

Banks Engineering Exhaust System
Hello. I installed a Banks Exhaust (headers and back) on my 2013 E450 motorhome. I also installed an air intake system by K&N. I noticed that the motorhome (Lexington 28 triple slide) would then go up hills in Utah about 1,000-1,200 rpms lower and 10-15 mph faster. On my last trip pulling an aluminum car trailer with car (6,600 lbs.) I got 11.8 mpg. I must admit that my primary goal for the Banks System was more power but with the lower rpms, the added bonus of mpg is really nice. I use this excuse to convince my wife of the 'pay back' costs of the install.

The 2011 v-10 was 362hp @ 4750 and 457 lb-ft @ 3250. The 2016 is 320/460 @ 4000/3000 respectively. I think they just gave it a more usable programming for a lower rpm range due to the 6spd trans. The combination seems to work for me.

There you go, higher peak torque at much lower rpm. Horsepower means nothing, just ask the diesel people.

One final point:
It also depends on how the motorhomes compare in weight and size. If your new one had a tile floor, heavier chassis and all the trimmings, there's your answer.
Too many variables make this comparison invalid.
I for one am trying to get someone with a 2015 364TS compare to my 2016. Now thats as close as you can get.
