It is never to early to plan ahead.

What kind of fridge do you have, residential?

We have used one AC and other normal things on 30 amp with no problems, just be aware of your usage. We invested in the 50 amp surge protector sold at Camping World. It is compatable with the 30 amp adaptor. The display will show you the actual amp draw you are using and it's a great investment.

You will be fine running one AC.

So you will need to factor that in as well.

If we were in the same situation, we would run the front AC during the day, and the rear (bedroom) at night.

Can our AC units be run on just fan...just the fan blowing with no compressor? That should help circulate the air.

running the back AC on fan while the front AC is running will help in moving the air and keeping the motorhome cooler. Just be careful when starting the mic or other appliances. Water heater on propane will help your endeavors.

I ran a park trailer on a 30 amp for years. Just couldn't two major items (water heater, micro, or A/C) at the same time. The A/C and a few lights, TV, etc will be no problem.

Yep just keep in mind what's running which probably won't be much when you think about it? The surge protector you bought, is it a Surge Guard or Progressive Ind.? I bought the PI online from Camping World on sale at the end of November for $349 which is the best price I've seen for the 50A model. Haven't used it yet and planning on getting a small chain to lock it to the power pedestal.

How necessary is it to invest in the surge protector? I have the Vibe 6502 and not a whole lot inside .... I'd like to better understand the "arguments" for the purchase (other then the obvious of protecting my investment).

Appreciate any comments

I would have to say you have answered the question yourself..Its really protecting your investment, I think you have to look at spend $300 now or Spend $1000.00 later if by chance you got that one faulty plug at the CG .. If you search these forums time and time again I have read the mishaps that have happened.. That might have been prevented if they had a surge protecter... My theory has always been invest now or pay a whole lot later...

You could also run an extension cord thru a hatch or slide seal and get
another 20 amp from the power post duplex receptacle. This could then
run your compressor fridge.
I'm saying this because most power posts have a 30 A RV and a 20 A normal receptacle.

Seems like the one below is my best option, yes?

Portable Surge Guards With LCD Display - 30 Amp - TRC 34730-001-LCD - Surge Protectors - Camping World

It didn't take much to convince me and I appreciate the inputs

Last year, brand new coach, plugged into Rv campground tower 50 amp with an open neutral, wiped out 3 large toshiba tv's', convection oven microwave oven, melted transfer switch, and knocked out the electrical portion of the fridge! Approx $1600 in parts and I did all the labor, had I bought a $300 protector, I would have been out $300 instead of $1600 and labor and a lot of grief and madness!!! Buy the surge protector!!

Dan, sometimes true, but not always. Lots of pedestals will feed the 20 amp receptacle off of the 30 amp supply breaker. In essence, you still only have 30 amps total. To find out for sure, while you have something plugged in the 20 amp, turn off the 30 amp and see if it also kills the 20 amp. I think some of the sites do this, so you don't have the ability to use 50 amps when you are paying for only 30.

Blubear, you are headed in the right direction. I would look at the one in the linc below. It is made by Progressive Industries. I think you will find most folks on here swear by this manufacturer, I know I do. It is an EMS. It not only protects from surges, but monitors you for high/low voltage, open neutrals, etc. The other BIG thing with Progressive, is they have a lifetime warranty.
