I noticed that behind the bedroom TV there is a huge open cavity of wasted space. Here is my mod.
This is what it looks like after the TV is removed and the panel is cut out. I thought I would be able to just remove the panel behind the TV, but it turns out that it is 5/8 plywood and it is part of the cabinet structure, so I just had to use a jigsaw and cut out around the frame.
I Blue taped the finished edge then sanded and finished the cut 5/8 plywood edge.
Sorry about the two sideways photos. I couldn't figure out how to display them properly.
I put a new 120v box and outlet as well as an outlet for the low voltage coax cable.
I put 2x2 wood to support the 5/8 plywood shelf. I had to cut the shelf down the middle to fit it in the hole. I use 1/4" ply to finish the sides. then stained everything as close as I could.
I routered a piece of 3/4" ply for the cabinet front. It didn't have to be perfect, because it is mostly behind the TV. I used two 12" piano hinges at the top and cut out the power cord and AV inputs. I didn't want to add a typical mount, because it would stick out too far.
Sorry for the two sideways photos. I couldn't figure out how to get them from my phone and rotate them properly.
