378 Georgetown Fresh Water Tank Overflow Warning

A quick note to warn people to be carefull overfilling their fresh water tanks as the overflow hose can form a syphon which will implode your fresh water tank and create very high internal water pressure in your cold water lines.

The factory fix is to install a longer overflow hose running a few loops of the hose tied off tight to the top of the compartment ceiling. The extra hose length above the top of the tank height makes it harder for a syphon to form.

Due to the design of the water system, neither disconnecting the fill hose nor opening interior taps will break the fresh water tank syphon once it has formed. The only way to break the syphon is to remove the cover panel in front of the fresh water tank, undo the band clamp on the overflow hose and pull the hose off the tank nibb. And take my word for it that doing all that one handed while using your other hand to stop the flow of water out of the overflow hose under the coach takes some coordination

See this thread for a long discussion on the topic. A few have put shutoff or anti-siphon valves in the vent line.
