About to Buy!

I have a deposit on a 2007 Georgetown 350 DS SE LTD. at 50k. Has 23k miles. Haven't seen yet, it's out of state, but it looks very clean. Full body paint, 6.5 onan, newer tires, etc. can anyone tell me what to look our for on these? Any specific areas to inspect?

First to the Forums. I would go to the Michelin Tire site and learn how to read the tire codes. Check them because if they are original they will need to be replaced soon. Check inside all of the outside compartments for signs of water getting in. The house batteries will be under the steps entering the RV. Ask about them, how old? Definitely have the slides opened and look at the seals for tears, wear etc. Big thing inside, look up at the ceiling everywhere. Look for signs of stains from a leaky roof especially near the AC units, antenna front and rear cap. Check the walls for signs of water getting behind the wall paper. Ask to have all the appliances shown in operation, water heater, refridge, TVs, radio, stove, etc. Good luck with your possible purchase. If you do buy it, we're here if you need any help explaining things.

Hello...I am new to this post and "virgin" RV buyer. I am looking at all of the RV out there, and it seems that they are consistent with the basics, (i.e., Ford Chasis, Onan Generator's...I assume the standard appliances come from the same factory in China). I am recently divorced and am considering full-timing to save on rent costs, (I live in the DC area and spend $1500 per month for a Studio). OK...getting around to my questions; it seems that what distinguishes RV's from each other, take the Georgetown for example, would be the quality of construction. From my research I have found that Newmar and Tiffin are the premium, but at a premium price. How well is the Forest River constructed and, for those of you who own one, would you purchase another FR? Thanks for listening!

If money was no object than I probably wouldn't look at FR, but since it is, FR gives the biggest bang for your buck. Are there problem, occasionally, but they build more than anyone else so there's always issues. That being said, the other manufacturers deal with the same thing. If you go in thinking there will not be any issues you'll be disappointed. These big boxes on wheels eventually have things that come loose. I've owned my coach since it was built new in 2006. I've had my share of problems but have worked through with help from FR or just my own solutions. Either way I would purchase another FR if they had what I was looking for from a layout standpoint. The RV inductry changes layouts occasionally. What Winnebago has now someone else will copy within a year or two. good luck with your search!
