Alternate Use for TV Cable Box area??

We have a 2014 329DS and I'm wondering if anyone has modified that storage area to the left of the kitchen sink where the TV cable box is stored - the one with the flip-up acrylic cover. I assume the area is intended for storage of CDs and DCDs, but we don't take many of those with us. I'd like to get rid of the annoying flip-up door (which won't stay up when you're fishing around inside the storage area to find something) and maybe use the area for wine storage. Any brilliant ideas out there? ( I would leave the TV/cable box there).
