And now the Toad!

Geez! Just when I thought I was eady to go with the "new-to-me" 342, it turns out that I have a tow connector problem!

I "assumed" that a 7 to 6 pin adapter would work for my Toads, and hadn't given it a thought...........until I helped a friend install the Blue Ox set up and wiring on his 2002 Wrangler.

I've probably done 20 Jeeps, from 1970 thru 2003, and never had a problem. The lighting on his 2002 was really screwed when we checked it with my 342, so I pulled my 1989 Wrangler up and it did the same! After scratching our heads for a few minutes, I hooked up my 2005 Liberty Renegade, and it had the same bunch of problems, so I was able (duh!) to eliminate the Toads as the problem.

The Georgetown has a 7-way connector, that going back, is plugged into a 5 or 6-way connector, that plugs into the Ford harness, with some friction tape and stuff in between. Both of my Toads worked fine from the old Georgetown's 6-way, so I bought a 6-to-7 way adapter from my local RV dealer, assuming that all I'd have to do is plug 'n play.

Oh, and the factory looking harnesses have insulation foam all over them, so whatever was done looks factory!
Parking lights: Left light okay, weak right.

Turn sigs: Left okay, right very weak.

With parking lights on, everything changes. Sounds like ground, but can't see where.

More insight: the Liberty has the isolated system, with it's own 1157 lamp in the added socket, and all three act the same.

It's too freaking hot right now to lay out in the sun under the MoHo, so I thought I'd throw this out to the members. Looks like a bad ground, but I have .9-ohms to ground on the 6-pin side of the adapter. That's when my knees started smelling like pulled pork and I quit!!!

Any ideas from y'all? Have at it. Like I said, I quit for tonite before really troubleshooting, but thought someone may have seen this.

And I've just been told that this unit was used as a remote office/dressing room/crew quarters in the entertainment industry.

That kinda explains why nothing of a personal nature was ever installed (even a TP holder!).

I use the same diagrams, whether wiring or troubleshooting, but thanks for the reply. I'm just about to try to beat the heat and go lie out there right now.

Thank heavens for the 22-1/2" wheels and their attendant ground clearance!

Just as a idea if the toads system is bonded to the toads ground you could try a ground jumper wire (jumper cable) from the coach frame to the toad frame to see if it improves. Of course if the extra bulbs are wired fully indepentent without the bond it wont matter. Sure you have tried contact cleaner and are sure no corrision surface shorting any of the plugs or recepticles. Good Luck

Solved! Geez....2-1/2 hours for a toad connector fix!

What I found:
1. Ground wire to MoHo connector measured 90 ohms. Found corrosion in the Ford chassis connector. Cleaned and di-electric greased.

2. Open ground wire in Blue OX cable (wouldn't have mattered if hooked up; ground would have been made thru tow bar).

3. The only two wires in the MoHo connector that were conventionally hooked up were the ground and the left stop/turn! The right stop/turn was connected to the electric brake terminal, and the parking light wire went to the right stop/turn terminal.

Someone had apparently invented their own wiring setup.

Whew! Now for !
(If I was allowed more images, I'd show more beers!)
