E gas suffers from what is commonly referred to as 'phase separation'. That is where the alcohol in the gasoline combines with moisture (alcohol has an affinity for moisture) and separates from the gasoline and causes a acidic sludge like goo to form that renders your fuel system inoperative.
ULSD (diesel) suffers from a similar fate but instead of sludge formation you get microbial growth in the fuel and the resultant microbes (referred to as algae) clog the works up too.
Both are expensive to remedy and both can be treated with additives.
Been there with both.
My diesel pickup sits all winter and you better believe I add a biocide to the fuel tanks and then top them off in the fall. I've suffered the algae fate. It's very expensive to repair (I do all my own work and the parts were expensive (new lift pump, injectors, new high pressure pump) as well as the time involved in dropping the fuel tanks and cleaning them as well as replacing the fuel lines to the lift pump.
Had a number of no start seasonal gas engines too and that always involves removing and dismantling the carbs and cleaning them, possibly replacing float assemblies and fuel lines and filters. All takes time and if you cannot do it yourself, like I can, it all costs money.
Additives and some common sense is a lot cheaper in the long run

Have always used Sta-bil and never had any issues. Used it in Miatas that were no driven in the winter and now using it our 3010DS Class C. Added proper amount to chassis fuel tank and drove unit and ran generator to insure stabilized fuel was throughout the system.

I run the blue marine Sta-Bil in all my fuel cans when I fill them. Because I never know how long what ever it is going on will sit before use again. This is used in my mower, gen set and various grand kid riding toys that I have on the place. It works well in everything but one particular gokart I have. I seems that no mater how short a time it sits I have to take the carb apart and clean the pilot jet out because it is plugged up when it comes time to ride it.
My gen set ( a Champion 3100) I run the carb dry before each storage just to be sure.

But would like to know what other folks here are using and would recommend.

I use Sea-Foam in all my small engines,,, I put it in my gas cans as soon as I bring them home,,, I use it all year,,, mix 1/2 oz per gallon... I use Sta Bil in the MH,,, when in storage,,, I run the engine & the Generator every month or so,,, as long as the snow allows me to get to it !!!

Went to Wallyworld today to get Star Tron. They didn't have it. Maybe because its Florida? Anyway they had Stabil and I put extra in the MH, drove it and ran the gen set. I always run both every month since its stored here at home.

The Walmart in Martinez, CA has it but not with the other automotive additives, instead it is located in the fishing and marine supply section. You might try looking for it there the next time you go to your local store.

Sta-bil marine 360. 1 ounce per 10 gallons during summer months. 1 ounce per 5 gallons when in storage.

Yes each type of Sta-bil has different ratios needed per gallon.

Chainsaw manufacturers got smart a while ago. They add fuel stabilization additives to the bottled pre-mix so wit's in there when you dump a bottle into your e-gas.
I ca buy non e-gas here. That is what I use in the saws. Not cheap but no alcohol.

I always used the red stinky stuff for years until they came out with the blue marine stuff that don't stink. Now, I'm all blue.
One word of advice, the blue marine stuff has a definite shelf life after opened, I believe one year (it's stated on the back of the bottle). Even provides a place on the back to date the opening date for you knowledge.
Blue sure is nicer to use than red, No stink.

I had a generator gum up and not run well. I added Seafoam to the tank and about a week later it was running like new.
