I have driven from Stoneham, MA (just north of Boston) to points south many, many times with car and TT hooked up and while in my youth I would always go through NYC, but now I would NEVER recommend it to anyone driving anything. Why risk losing HOURS on the road sitting in traffic when it is EASILY avoided WITHOUT any lose of time???

I now take 90W - 84E - 684W? (towards White Plains) - 287W (observer the Tappan Zee Bridge) - From there you decide which way to go either the Garden State Parkway South to reconnect with 95 or follow the inland route as described through Scranton.

Also - NO PROPANE through Baltimore Tunnel on 95 so plan around that as well. Maybe another argument for the inland route...

I second Bob's route but I vote for the inland route toward Scranton I 80. Done it from Conn. serveral times as stated little longer but much more relaxed
