That's my answer too. I carry some tools - screwdrivers, pliers, sockets and ratchet, tape, spare fuses, VOM, etc, but for changing a tire, my tool is the Coach Net phone number.

I to carry a few tools, duct tape, small tool kit with an assortment of stuff, a ball peen hammer, rubber maillot, hand it to the tire guy to bang on the wheel covers, figured the claw hammer was a waste of time, fuses.

Well when I finally had someone out who could change the tire, he had to send one of his guys back to the yard to get a new tire since the spare I had was damaged, we talked a bit. When I brought up USAA he told me a lot I the wreckers services tend not to go out for calls when places like USAA calls them because they don't make as much on the call, so they do the jobs that are bigger money first and then follow up on the others. Not sure how true this is across the board but I know when we called USAA, his company was one they called out in the beginning and after an hour we called them back they tried someone else. But I have had USAA for years and love them so I am not bashing any company as it may not be their fault.

Yes, if not for USAA I am sure it would have been a several hundred dollar invoice. Cash please...

Harbor freight has inexpensive and powerful impact guns. A torque wrench is admirable but

Harbor freight has inexpensive and powerful impact guns. A torque wrench is admirable but if you need to change a flat in a pinch and you have an on board genny an electric impact gun could really save your day

I do carry an generator and a 120 VAC air compressor to fill tires and run the air tool I do carry (pencil grinder for trimming the dog's talons). I suppose an air powered impact gun would be helpful in terms of speed, but how would you know the lug nuts were properly torqued without a torque wrench?

Large motorhome/coach tire changes are a whole different ballgame than
lighter trailer tire changes.

My trailer weighs just 4200 LBS fully loaded ready to camp.
I can place just 2 pieces of 2 x 6 in front of a wheel and pull up onto those
blocks and the other wheel on that side will be off the ground.
In other words I can change a tire with just a 4 way lug wrench and
2 pieces of scrap wood, no jack needed.
And the tire and wheel probably weighs what-- 30-40 lbs??
The same 4 way wrench fits my truck but it would require a lot more
work. The spare must be winched down from it's spot in the
rear of the truck under the bed. That's the worst part to me.
Then I need to get the jack and go to it.

A big ole motor home is way different!

No way I can manhandle a 200 pound tire and wheel assembly.

I am embarrassed how long it took me to discover that trick. I did it while levelling my new Mini Lite last year & only had 1 tire on the boards. It would have been so helpful 3 times that I can remember.

I'm talking about a motorhome - an impact gun would make it a lot easier to remove and install all those lug nuts. Not terribly worried about torque for an emergency repair, and AAA etc wouldn't carry a torque wrench - they would use an impact gun too

Yes, that is a good point.

Although the tire guy at BJ's had color coded torque wrenches to final check the torques after he used his impact gun to spin the nuts on.

I've discovered that most of them do carry torque bars for their impacts tho' and you can always request they bring one if you know what the torque is.
