Broken Key

I broke off the only key I have for my basement compartments on my Georgetown XL. My dealers parts department said "I'm hooped, and will need to replace all the locks for the basement compartment doors". Anyone else have the same problem, and is this the only solution? I thought with the key number, I could get it easily replaced.

you might find a locksmith that can make keys off one of the locks or the broken key.

Did you get the broken key out of the lock? There is a recent thread on how to extract it using a fine jig saw blade...

I would say you should find a new dealer. I broke my compartment key in the lock while on a trip and called AAA. They sent a locksmith in a short time, who removed the key part, opened the compartment and made me two new keys on the spot.

When I bought my GeorgeTown last summer, every employee at the RV dealership had keys to fit the compartments. Told me that 1 key fits all of them???????

Could be. I've seen that in trailers.

I know that my keys do not work on a trailer exactly like mine, I ordered new keys for mine direct from the lock manufacturer, One of them was Bauer and I can not remember the other, one of them was 14.00 and the other ine was 11.95 and that was for 2 keys each. There is a number stamped on the keys. If you can find out who the lock manufacturer is order directly from them. Some of the older campers used a CH751 key and that key fit most campers. My 2000 Cardinal had that key, but ny new one is different. I hope this is helpful to you.

If the dealer can't help I would pull a lock off & take it to a locksmith. Last lock I had a key made without a key cost me about $10. The locksmith maybe able to cut the key by the number if they have the make of the lock. Keep the piece of the key if you can get it out Good luck

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I looked up the website of the manufacturer, FIC, and was able to order a couple of new keys for next to nothing. Thanks again.

There is a 'dealer' key that is a master - one key fits all. On the key web sites the master/dealer key is shown however proof of being a dealer is apparently required to order.

We had to replace a lock and the trailer parts store asked for the number on our key to provide a lock that matched.

Was it a 751 Key? I changed my front ones out on my storage compartments on my Puma 25RS with some from Lowe's. I have two different keys which even gets me confused at times.

The CH-751 key everbody has, if you are camping right now just ask the campers next door to you to open your lock chances are they have a spare key. This is not only used on RV's but it is the very same key that is used to lock our flamable cabinet at the museum.

Dealerships and campgrounds may have a 'Master' door key. Compartment keys are usually the same cut.
