Broken Steps 09 GT357QS

Our step bolt broke like so many do. I called FR and spoke to Justin in the warranty dept and he said that they would replace the entire steps at no charge as long as we took it to a FR dealer. Did that and had good contact with dealer. A week later FR called the dealer and told them it would NOT be covered because it's an 09 and we are the second owner. I thought I read someone's post that theirs was replaced at no charge. If anyone had theirs done with the same story, I'd love to know what you did that I haven't. I don't happen to have a spare $1000 in my pocket right now.

And that's why I prefer to communicate via email. If Justin told you they would take care of it, then it's on him. Problem is that now it's your word against his. Has the dealer already replaced the steps? If not, you can contact the step's manufacturer to see if they can help. They may just send you a band aid repair, but at least you don't have to spend 1k.

FYI as a last resort......
I replaced a 3 step Lipper steps on my 2007 GT 373
about 3 months ago
Bought them on-line at Etrailer.com cost $600.00 to my door
I installed them, took about 1 hour.

PS I had to buy the whole set-up because they don't make the 60-70 dollar
half moon gear that opens & closes the step. what a pisser!
Is'nt RVing fun?

Why didn't you go for the Kwikees?

Because, I was going for EASY
The Kwikees had different wiring, Different plug, and different holes
to line up
It was going to be more of a hassel

I have to say that the new model steps seem to be a lot better
that the stock ones that came with the MH

From what I understand, they were having issues and now they are installing just the Kwikees. Some members have had FR swap them out to Kwikees.

Thank you Al.. I do have it on my answering machine. All messages back and forth have been calm and nice. I'm figuring out what and how to say it all in a tactful way instead of just words flying out of my mouth. Hoping that the person that had theirs replaced would see this. How come they got theirs replaced but not ours?

I would say that you took it to an authorized dealer because that was the instructions you were given by the FR representative. Mention the fact that you were told it would be taken care of by FR. They'll come back and say that they didn't say that and you can say you have it recorded. Now, they are probably reading this thread and if they are, they should Man up and take care of you.

In all actuality it is easier said than done. I have to let DW take care of things like this because the minute I smell BS, it gets ugly. Someone gave me the FR hierarchy, but can't find it.

I can understand their side because you are the second owner, etc. However, they are aware that this is a known safety issue and have replaced it for other members. Not only that, but like you said, they told you it would be taken care of. Remember that the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Hopefully they'll take care of you. I don't think they'll lose any money in doing so.
