Buyer beware
Purchased a 2014 on4/12/2016 was new never sold believed we did our home work by calling Ford and Forestriver to verify warranty on unit motor blew first 400 miles .Ford dealer asked for service records told them did not have it long enough to have any bottom line refused warranty due to oil only change 3 times in 2600 miles per ford needed 7 oil changes bill was 11700 for new motor that dealer paid for after 4 months. Selling dealer refused to fix vynle that forestriver said they would cover put unit into Crestview rv in Georgetown Texas and they replaced captain chairs / dinet set / couch and recliner all covered by Forestriver it is now at home we picked it up 3/10/2018 took a year to get fixed so bottom line if you buy last year model ask for service records

It needs 7 oil changes in 2700 miles? That's 385 miles/oil change.
Did you mean 27,000 miles? That would be more like 3850 miles/oil change. Still seems a little often to me.
3 times in 27,000 miles would be about 9,000 miles/oil change. I can see where that may be too far.
What's your owners manual say for oil change intervals?
2700 miles seems a lot for a "new, never sold" unit (probably 1000 miles just to get it to Texas). 27,000 miles is definitely not "new," even if never sold.

My guess is they were holding him to the 6month oil change interval even though it was on the lot. Lots of moisture build up in the oil may have contributed to the failure.

Me, too. The OP hasn't been back since he posted this. I'm guessing he was just venting.

If I read some of it right... Sat two years (give or take) on the lot and then purchased... Then engine blew... Guess the oil broke down after sitting for two years.

I'm guessing rockfordroo is correct. Maybe the OP will settle down and get his/her facts and figures correctly posted.

So to prevent this a Dealer should send the unit for Service before selling. The issue with seating sitting on the lot in the Sun UV rays from global warning ozone hole is a issue. I have seen this on other forums with same age of coaches.

Doesn’t make sense. Some of these F53 chassis sit in a field for up to a year before the motorhome manfucater starts build the body on them. Then they can sit on a dealers lot for another year. The warranty start date is the same as the in service date which the sellng dealer has to fill out and send to ford when the unit s sold.

sounds like a dealer not wanting to do the work. I know for a fact that the oil life indicator on my truck counts months and miles. i can turn the truck off, let it sit for a month, turn it on and its oil life is way less.

My unit...
Three months ago I bought a used '16 (with a '15 chassis) 270 from a local dealer with 3,800 miles on it. Obviously it had been sitting somewhere for much of the last two years but the selling dealer had bought it from a wholesaler and didn't know the history or dealer of original sale. They confirmed the original "in service" or sale date that Ford had on record and that the chassis had only a few months warranty left. They also doubted it had been serviced ever and based on my examination I agreed with them. They showed no concern since the mileage was so low but did offer to service it at their normal rate which I declined.
The owner's manual from Ford stipulated the normal service interval for oil changes was 7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first and documentation of services performed would likely be beneficial in the event of any warranty claim. My examination didn't cause me to doubt the original mileage (or low engine hours) or feel there was significant risk in my decision to buy it. The oil and all fluids appeared virtually new. I immediately serviced it myself and feel confident the engine's longevity hasn't been impacted by the lengthy interval from the original oil fill. A knowledgeable Ford truck mechanic I questioned concurred. My unit will likely spend the winter months in storage and the six month oil change intervals will likely be routinely exceeded.
This is my first Ford product ever in 50 years of vehicle ownership and I'm quite impressed by it's design and performance, especially considering the 24 year old motor home (I bought new) that it replaced. Of course there's no predicting longevity, but I have no reason to think it will fail prematurely. I also harbor no delusions that I'll have to take care of future repairs at my own expense, but have at least tried to do my very best "due diligence".
Good luck everyone. - Mark
