Carpet on floor next to range

I don't know if all Georgetowns have this carpet but on the 37 foot, there is a strip of carpet on the floor next to the stove. I've lived in my RV now for about 5 years. The problem I'm seeing is that the carpet is virtually impossible to keep clean. Try as I may, I can get it cleaner, but not clean. I'm wanting to cover the carpet with a kitchen mat or something. Has anyone had the same problem? If so, how did you solve it?

Yup...bought a kitchen mat at Bed Bath and Beyond. It's vinyl and has the type of backing that keeps it from sliding around.
