Center console completed

Finally I finished my center console, the finish is perfect and it match 100% my cabinets.

Added a monitor, ScanGauge II , dual USB chargers, clock... And most importantly it is now tilted towards the driver and you can see and control a lot better. Excuse the bad pictures.. will post good quality one once installed

Looks fantastic!! I've been wanting to do the exact same thing but want to figure out what all I want to add first.

Can you share any of the build details? Type of wood, stain colors, etc? I've gotten close to the factory color but always looking to be better.

Nice work!

Tom

That's WOW!
Beautiful wood work.
Would like to see the back how you mounted the new console to the existing plastic.

Thanks guys. I have made it from 3/4" Russian birch wood plank. Lots of funky angles but I first did several mockups pieces in cardboard.

My biggest challenge was finding an easy way to attach it to the existing console on the RV. Having this spare plastic one helped me a lot. Also, I didn't want to cut the original one in the event I decide to sell the RV and the future owner doesn't like it. This way, I would be able to revert to the original one.

So I use 2 pipe holders on one side and 2 metal plates on the other side. These plates are found inside cabinet with magnetic latch. Found them at demo depot.

All I can say is this is very solid and will not move . I might put a piece of double sided 3M tape on top but I'm not sure on that one yet.

Thanks again for your comments.

Thanks for sharing the details, it looks great. I'm currently working on a dash mounted desk for our 351DS, but I hope to do this project next!

That is beautiful! Cant imagine if you decided to sell that a future owner wouldn't want that.

Johnnya,

That looks awesome. Great job. That is how FR should have done it originally. The OEM one you cannot see from the Drivers seat. You should sell them. I may have to take a crack at this myself. Thanks again for posting the details.

Nice work you didn't happen to drive a Freightliner at one time reminds me of the dash from the one I used to drive.

You should make a standard template where individuals just cut there own holes and sell the blanks. I would definitely be interested in purchasing one.

As would I.
You could be "New Coot" named after the infamous Old Coot.

@T-Rex, I took my inspiration from various place, DP, Trucks, cars... As I'm not very tall, 5' 7", my driver seat is pretty much adjusted very close to the steering and I couldn't see my GPS screen. Very frustrating so from the get go I knew I was going to change the configuration.

So I put a list of things I wanted to include, dedicated monitor for cameras, ScanGauge II, clock, usb chargers and started designing my new cockpit.

When my MH dealer saw the installed console, they took a bunch of pictures and sent them to Forest River. I doubt they will ever put this is production but all I can say, it's vert functional.

Thanks for your note, it would be difficult to make a standard template as there is a lot of work the needed to be done behind the scene to make it look like that. I have used 3/4 inch plywood to make this console and I have to shave the inside in many places to not make the edges too thick. And the front part need to have all wholes cut before starting to assemble it. So the design must be done before assembling.

I've bought all of the parts to make a jig in my shop instead of doing the work inside the MH.

If anyone interested, I have no more use of these parts. I tough about trying to make a few of these but the time needed to make it look like that, perfect match with all my wood inside the MH took me a lot of time.

Unless someone see it first in person and agree that is exactly how they want it, I wouldn't do one to risk not satisfying the end user.

Great job! A lot of detail and patience. Very smart to purchase a factory console. Make sure you patent it. Lol.
