Changing tire on georgetown

Have not need to do so yet. I would like to be ready in the event I would need to change the tire. I have a Spare underneath and have done it on cars an trucks before. Other than the tire I do not have any other equipment. Bought the motorhome used and need to find what I should have with me and the steps in the progress. Do I use the leveling jacks as the Jacks to raise the motorhome? Do I need to go to a truck stop store to by everything? Thanks for the help!

Frank4, I would never trust leveling jacks to keep that much weight up in the air and work on the tire. As johnnypal says, do not take chance wtih your or your families safety, call a professional.

Road Service is by far the best answer to your question. They have the proper equipment to do the job correctly including torqueing the lug nuts.
We have Good Sam ERS and it covers quite a bit including all of your other vehicles for a little over $100 a year.

Ditto on having road service change the tire. Have had three blowouts since we bought our 2004 Georgetown. Service trucks from Coachnet have always got the spare off from underneath the coach even though it's tricky since once the nut is taken off the long shaft......it drops...very dangerous!!!
All times it takes at least 2 people to get the spare up to it's original position.
Sometimes three hefty fellows even had difficulty getting it back up. A couple times the blown tire had to travel in the toad until we got to a tire shop and had them put it back up.

Hope the newer Georgetowns have a better system to lower and raise the spare .

Road service is not that expensive and I wouldn't leave home without it. No way this old guy is going to wrestle one of those hulking tires.

They do, at least on our 2012.

There is NO spare.

As mentioned, one person probably wouldn't be able to get the wheel back on.

Our Spare is in the trunk on the 2007 Georgetown 370. It is just a tire, no rim, so it has to be mounted on whichever rim has the flat. It's still a heavy tire even without the rim as well. It is the same tire as the other 6 though.

Frank,
Go to < NMC | Roadside Assistance - RV Plans >. It will be the best $109 you ever spent. And your personal cars/pickups, boat trailers, etc., etc. are automatically covered too for no extra charges! And don't even think this kind of service from the "Good Sam" crowd.

You should check with your local tire retailers.

A retailer (in Colorado) for a national chain told me they would not mount a tire that was over 6 yrs old.
This was for a 05 F250, happened in 2010.

Which brings up another problem. Your 07 MH probably has 06 tires.

Why is that a problem. I bought a 2011 378TS in August 2010 so of course it had 2010 tires. That's the way the RV industry works.

When/if cfsoistman needs to have his 05, 06 or 07 spare mounted on a rim he may not be able to get anyone to mount it, it’ll be too old.

If I was selling new tires, I'd tell someone that we just can't mount those old tires. I think that's just BS. Lots of places sell and mount used tires. What about retreads the semi's use.

I understand the statement where they might not want to mount an older tire and I hope I never have to have it done. This tire is in an enclosed trunk, has only seen the light of day before it was placed in there and once when I took it out to clean up all the stuff left from when the coach was built.
