Chevrolet Equinox

Just got my 2017 Equinox tow plat added. The 4 down Chevy manual said to pull fuse 32. I had the installer add a 12 V line to the battery for the Equinox. Does any know if I still need to pull the fuse?

Yes you do. I thought the new equinox was no longer towable. My son works for GM and said the new tranny is not compatible. Told him it was in the book so he said tow away, they should cover it on warranty, the service manual says no and he is a GM transmission specialist for the last 20 years.

We just about bought one then back out. We are still looking for a new toad.

The owners manual has instructions on fat towing and Motorhome mag said that the 2017 Equinox was. Hope that it is. If not I have spent a lot of money on a car that I can not use.
Can you explain why fuse 32 needs to be pulled if you have power from coach to car battery?

I think it will keep the odometer from registering miles as you drive.

It may have something to do with the computer control for the tranny.
If that's all you need to do I would get a fuse holder to put the fuse in and run a wire from the hot side of the original fuse position to the fuse holder, then run a wire from the other side of the fuse holder to the dash in the Equinox to an SPST switch then back to the other side of the original position. When you want to tow it turn the switch off. Turn the switch on when you want to use the car.

Thanks for the info.
I need to check that my Brake Buddy has power once fuse 32 is removed. Will do that today.

Recapping this post

First off....JBP said he bought a 2017 Equinox, not a 2018 which has been completely re-designed. The 2017 Equinox and GMC Terrain are mechanically the same and CAN be towed four down. I know, because I have one and it's towing fine. 4 cylinder and front wheel drive.....tows fine.

Secondly, I installed an inline switch to control fuse 32 which puts the odometer to sleep when towing.....amongst a few other "ACC" key position accessories. One of which is the 12 volt outlets near the front of the vehicle.

I run the power for my BRAKE BUDDY on a longer cord from the outlet at the rear lift gate which remains powered.

Hope that is true. The one we looked at BOOK did say it was flat towable but the transmission was changed out that year and it really wasn't. That being said , that was for the year model equinox we were looking at. My son did say that GM did change transmissions a couple of times . I personally will go down and check this out because if it is really towable I will buy one right away because I really like that vehicle. Hope everything is as you good folks say I just started some needless worry. Safety towing and safe travels. Jim
Ps might have an equinox before the day is over.

4 cylinder versus 6 cylinder for 2017 models

Electric steering versus hydraulic steering for 2017 models.

2018 models HAVE changed....some engine/transmission versions not even available yet.

I'm not familiar with BOOK. What is that?

Ok. Got it. Owners manual.

I knew GM was planning a complete redesign for the Equinox and Terrain in 2018, that's why I bought the 2017 model. All the "bugs" should be fixed by now, and I've never wanted the first year of anything. The mechanical part of the Equinox and Terrain are identical....4 vs 6 cylinder, 2WD vs AWD. It's just a visual preference by people bewteeen the two.

From commercials I've seen on TV already, the 2018 Equinox is already available but not the Terrain....at least in Canada so far.

We're vacationing in the Canadian Maritimes right now and aside from returning from Florida, we've towed a few times over the summer and its performing flawlessly on some very bumpy roads and interstates. My 4 cylinder 2WD with Blue Ox and Brake Buddy does great, rides beautifully, performance is adequate, good fuel mileage, lots of carrying space, and makes the perfect toad for us.

Almost forgot...

Others that we've met have model 2016 and 2017 V6 AWD, and they report better performance (no surprise) and tows great too. In the final two years of production they only had very small cosmetic changes.

Thanks for all that information, good to hear about the towing performance. The wife and I wanted to hear some testimony before we bought, our old Dodge toad is getting worn down and beside it's bottom of the line 2008 with 100k miles towing, shows 78k on the odometer. That's a lot of miles.

Safe travels, hope to see you folks on the road.
