Coach Step Motor Failure after recall repair
Lippert performed a recall on my steps at the Goshen rally. When loading for our next trip after the rally the motor on the steps failed. Called Lippert and they did not think the recall could lead to failure. Anyone else have the recall don and then have the motor fail? TIA

I had my steps replaced at Goshen and they have been working flawlessly since. My steps were weak on one side. How have you deduced that the motor is bad?

Called Lippert and let them know the steps wold not completely extend or retract. Motor would run for a time and then turn off.
I replaced the motor today and seems to be working fine now.

Sounds like something was misaligned or the limits weren't set properly.

I had a bad motor on my 335 after 18 months. It is still under warranty and the nylon gear in the motor is totally stripped. I could help it out and help it in but without that it would stall when the gear hit the stripped area.
Put a new one in and it is fine. However, understanding the design and operation you need to understand that putting any weight on them before they are fully extended will put too much load on the motor gear which is plastic. This is also true when using them after they have stopped from hitting an obstruction.
When fully extended the motor takes very little load due to the design of the fan gear...that is the place to load them.

I also had a bracket on the steps recalled while at the rally. Upon leaving the last day, the steps wouldn't retract all the way. I had to remove a bolt, push the steps up and use a tie down strap on them to get home.
Ran it to the dealership only to be told that my house batteries were not charged up. Of course the steps worked fine for them.
Got it home, charged up the batteries, steps wouldn't go up. Checked my batteries and they seemed "iffy" so today I bought 2 new house batteries, installed them and the steps will not retract all the way. I currently have a maintenance charger on them, hoping the batteries needed to be "topped off".
I'm going to go off the deep end on somebody because: 1) the steps worked just fine before the recall; 2) I've been very happy with the service department at dealership and I hope they didn't miss the problem; 3) I just spent a couple of hundred on house batteries that I may not have needed!

It sounds like I have the same problem as Scott. Scott I sent you a message. Has anyone replaced the step motor themselves?

Easy to replace just the motor
I hear it is really a Ford window actuator (motor).
I have a used motor if you want it. It came off of my 2013 Lippert steps.

replied by PM. It is easy to replace the motor, once you get the subplate removed and take it out.
