Compost toilet

Has anyone converted their 364 to use compost toilets instead of traditional? It seems easier than dealing with sewage Is this true or is it a nightmare? Any feedback would be appreciated....

Gone With The Wynns have a pretty good video on composting toilets for RVs. Here is the YouTube link

This has been discussed on a number of occasions, do a search on compost and you'll have plenty to read.

Think I will stick with the regular toilet that came with the MH. Using the stinky slinky is not that bad.

I installed a Nature's Head some time ago and now sit and wonder why I waited so long. Sure beats getting out in the freezing cold or blistering heat of summer to empty the black tank and messing with the stinking slinky. Took me about 2 1/2 hours to install and remove original toilet. Some can do it faster as I am several years past my "use by" date and can't get down and up as I once could. We use coconut coir as a medium and have had no problems with odor. Just keep the urine separate from the solids and you will be good to go.

Which begs the question, what do you do with the urine, or do you pee in a different pot? Just how does that work?

Id like to know as well.. Most information leaves out the nitty gritty details.

Tell us how it works ! Down to the last drop !

You have to dump the urine somewhere. There is a youtube video showing the separate urine vessel, which she dumped in the fire pit. Also one has to open the toilet to get the vessel out, with all the poop solids to look at. I imagine the technology might have changed, but I can't see how this is any better than handling a black water tank.

From what I understand, once you've "handled your business" (#2), you churn it with a handle on the side to mix it up. If you were to look inside you would just see soil. Apparently it doesn't smell if you don't mix the urine with poo. It seems too good to be true. I watched the "gone with the wynns" video and it left me wondering why everyone doesn't do it. You can just dump your urine in any toilet anywhere and you can throw your solids out in the trash?! No dump stations necessary. It also doubles your grey tank storage by using black as grey......
(I don't even have my unit yet. This is just what I've gathered through my research so far. I guess I'll make my decision is two weeks when we pick it up)....

If you are predisposed to believe it is a bad thing, then to you it is. Leave it alone. There is no amount of talk that can convenience you otherwise. However, just as Br'er Rabbit said, please don't throw me in that briar patch.

I'm truly interested how it works.
Would you elaborate ?

If you are truly interested in how it works then go to the video clip that PSU Turf provided in the second entry to this thread. Also, I suggest going to the Nature's Head web site. Visuals are much better than my not particularly articulate ramblings.

I've watched the videos.
I want any details they failed to mention.
How does the urine get into the removable tank?
Dirty details!

Let's get " dirty".
Say you have your DW chilli.
Your # 2 may not go directly and completely down the hole.. Then what?

There are two holes in the upper portion of the bowl (to the side) that you are supposed to "aim" in to. You have to open the hatch to let solids into the lower bowl. If hatch is closed it appears all liquids spiral into the separate liquids collector tank. Youtube is the best place to see it.

Can't help with that one, but the female half of "gone with the wynns" doesn't appear to have any issues with it, so it must work.

Actually, that other couple on Youtube, Josh and Kali, The Freedom Theory(?) said in one of their videos that they dump the urine into their shower and it goes into the grey tank.

My other "technical" question is if guys have to sit down to pee in those composting toilets. From the pictures it looks like the urine trap is in the front.
