Wrapperman - Glad to hear it was not as serious as the thread I referred you to. The symptoms you described matched that sidewall failure, for both the Georgtown and the Mirada.
Georgetown and Mirada owners should keep this failure in the back of their minds so if they see the symptoms, they can deal with it early on.
I don't think there is a way to inspect the Georgetown for impending failure, but the Mirada can be inspected, and takes less than 1 minute with a flashlight, Just poke your head in the wheel well and look up to see the attach screws.
My Mirada failed in a similar manner, the sidewall attachment failed and allowed the whole front end to float up and down, scary as hell when it gets bad.
The repair on the Mirada is a lot easier than the Georgetown.
