Dash bouncing with big gusts of wind at highway speeds

My dash seems to bounce when we encounter headwinds. It bounces about 2" to 3 " up and down. Most of the time it doesn't move. Has anybody else's do this and how did you fix it?

That's certainly not right. Have you checked to see if you have holes or spaces that are not sealed in the firewall? Also, when this happens do you feel air movement into the passenger compartment? If your dash is moving a total of 5 inches up/down, this is something I'd have checked out very soon. This movement could be putting undue stress on cables, wiring, and steering components under the dash!

I'll check closer. Though under the hood the dash does not push up. I assume there is a board that is solid and a board on top of that which is moving up and down.
Thanks

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

Thanks waiter21.
You got me worried so I checked mine out and upon closer examination the dash board, and I mean board is just laying on the Fiberglas lip of the front center cap. Not even glued or screwed down.
I now suspect it is raising because of the pressure of the passing wind.
I will now try and fix the issue and will post how I did it.

Sounds like factory missed installing the backer boards that secure dash to rear of front fiberglass.

Maybe
There is only the board that is the dash
I suppose I will need to find someway of attaching that board to the fiberglass ledge.

Mine did that since new.
When I was back at the 2015 Goshen FROG Rally I had FR fix it.
They installed 3 screws from below on each metal bracket from the engine compartment into the dash. |
It is a 1/2" or 3/4" piece of plywood but had short screws not to penetrate up into the dash cover.

They also came inside and removed the 2 defrost plastic frames and added screws at two ends of each vent cover closest to the center of the window.

They reinstalled the plastic over the 2 new screws and you do not see anything.

It was easy and only took a few minutes and they have done it before.

Wrapperman - Glad to hear it was not as serious as the thread I referred you to. The symptoms you described matched that sidewall failure, for both the Georgtown and the Mirada.

Georgetown and Mirada owners should keep this failure in the back of their minds so if they see the symptoms, they can deal with it early on.

I don't think there is a way to inspect the Georgetown for impending failure, but the Mirada can be inspected, and takes less than 1 minute with a flashlight, Just poke your head in the wheel well and look up to see the attach screws.

My Mirada failed in a similar manner, the sidewall attachment failed and allowed the whole front end to float up and down, scary as hell when it gets bad.

The repair on the Mirada is a lot easier than the Georgetown.

I was able to lift up the dash from up top. Also under the dash I could push up where the windshield vent are.
