Defrosters

We bought a 2008 338se a few weeks ago been out one weekend so far ( love it ). Made a list of things to do over the winter, one was to do something about the broken defroster vents staring me in the face. Before & After.

Very very nice! How do they work? Asking because the original ones had smaller openings that would allow the air to be more focused on the windshield.

It'll be April or May next year before we go away anywhere
However this weekend I put stabil in the gas and ran the engine for 5 minutes, while it was running I turned the defrosters on full and both curtains were 3 or 4 inches off the dash in those areas, so I imagine all will be well.
As for making and selling more of these, I will have to price up time & materials, 3/16" machined aluminum, sandblasted then clear lacquered. The perforated steel mesh is just painted black.
I'll have to see how many I can make in my spare time. Mel

You learn something new everyday. When we stopped overnight in northern GA we woke up to a thick cover of dew on the windshield. It was taking forever with just the defroster so I turned on the two crazy fans up on the top corners. I call them crazy because they vibrate and make all sorts of noise while on. The fans helped getting rid of the dew, but I never thought about lowering the shade. Great idea! BTW, anyone else with the same problem with the fans? It seems like the fan blades are out of balance or something.

Another thing I'm going to have to swap out. I like the idea of having them to help with the air flow, but can't stand the rattle and noise. Was wondering if they were all like that or just ours...and yours.

They are just cheap fans. The big issue is to mount them on a solid surface. I don't plan on replacing them as I have only used them a few minutes in the early morning when it started raining and build condensation on the inside of the windshield. I plan on checking mine next time I have it at my home.
If anyone else found a solution please let us know.

Our fans vibrate too. They are made to move a lot of air, and they do. Not sure what the fix might me, although we don't use them often enough for it to be a real issue for us.

I'm pretty sure the blades are out of balance. I'm going to remove one to see if I can fit it in my propeller balancer (RC Planes).
