Dinghy towing
Hi everyone.
I am looking into buying a 2012 Yaris SE 5 speed and I would like to know if it's a good choise. Does anybody know of pros & cons of this choise.
Thanks.

That will cost you over $15,000. It's OK but I picked up a 2012 Fiat 500 for just over $10,000 out the door with all kinds of standard options.
Can be towed on all 4 wheels with the standard 5 speed manual transmission, I have gotton 38-44 mpg so far and tows like nothing is there. Weighs 2,363 lbs

Yaris towing
alpinemike, the 2012 Dinghy Towing guide shows that the Yaris manual transmission is towable 4 down, but the automatic is not. If you did get an automatic you would need a tow dolly to get the front wheels off the ground, adding expense and more hookup time.
Here is the guide:

Here is an article on dinghy towing from MotorHome Magazine.
Dinghy Towing Basics
Hope this helps some.

Iggy, how do you like the Fiat? Good buy for the money or POS?

Great value and economy for the money. I have people always asking what is it and how many mpg. On top of all the great things it comes with it is fun to drive.

We looked at the Yaris and the Fiat, the Abath wasn’t in the US yet.
We (I) didn’t like either one, because it would be my daily driver.
So for the same money we (I) bought a well maintained 2005 Mini Cooper S automatic and a tow dolly.

No joke. Those little pee-pot cars scare the heck out of me.
With the morons that are driving around either drunk or without a driver's licence (and zero driving knowledge) these days, I like to have as much metal around me as possible.

What are you driving?
You need to watch out for old people driving motorhome.
They can cream any of the cars out there.

I drive nothing but trucks, and I REALLY watch out for the motorhome drivers, as they are indeed a very scary bunch!

Have you seen any of the Smart car crash tests?
Here’s my favorite
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=9iKGfo1wmOM&feature=endscreen
If you don’t want to watch all the video, scroll over to the 5:00 mark, interesting comment about any car in a 70 mph head-on crash.

If I am in a 70mph head on crash with a 2000 lb pee-pot, I think my 7000 lb truck might just come out ok, except for some underside damage as it sails right over the pee-pot!
Seriously though, no one wins in a car carsh. Its all about driving defensively, very defensively.
